| Club preparing to host March district meeting |

"No Child Left Behind" has been signed into law, and math, reading and science is now recommended for additional special training in schools. At their January meeting, the Plant and Pray Garden Club, in preparing to host the Clearwater District in March, this club noted the problems in these fields. Among the six possible places to host this biannual meeting, the Hearthstone Bakery was selected as it was near the welcome center and museum where a special historical program was being shown and could be an attraction to the gathering. This is the election and installation meeting for the Clearwater District. The nominees are Edith Cole, Pomeroy, district director elect; Jodene Caldwell, Moscow, and Janice Tefft, Culdesac, first and second vice-directors elect; Joyce Parr, Moscow and Loraine Smith, Kooskia, secretary and treasurer elect. A problem occurred in math, similar in kind to a problem that happened some 30 years ago at the last time the Plant and Pray hosted the Clearwater District a few years ago. At this last meeting a flower show judge was finishing the licensing for judging, a National Garden Club, Inc., project. Of course, this math problem was used as a teaching tool, as the student had to write a flower show schedule as part of the project requirement. The proposed place and plans of the meeting under the chairmanship of Becky Brotnov, will be presented, Feb. 12 to the Clearwater District Board, meeting in the Asotin County Library in Clarkston. At this point in time, the research has not been completed on the eligibility of the out-of-state judges in decision making. The Idaho Native Plant Society will hold their annual conference in Boise, Feb. 12-13-14. And the White Pine Unit is holding on Jan. 25 a presentation on vegetation regrowth on the School Fire near Pomeroy; Feb. 28, invasive plants and insect interaction; and Mar. 29, Palouse soils. All these educational programs are being held at the University of Idaho beginning at 7 p.m. The Idaho Garden Clubs, Inc., are suffering from a communication problem, that is caused by the failure to read and comply with the bylaws and guidelines of the organization instead of adopting "hearsay." Do prove every statement before accepting it. Good gardening. |
