Forest road construction, Warren Wagon Road, Salmon River Road


   Forest road construction projects start Sept. 7
   Two Nez Perce National Forest road construction projects are scheduled to start Sept. 7 on the Moose Creek Ranger District, south of Lowell.
   One of the projects is to reconstruct shoulders on Hamby Fork Road #651. The closure is weekdays only (Monday through Friday) from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is expected to last three weeks. The other project is to place aggregate on Coolwater Road #317. The closure is weekdays only from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is expected to last six weeks.
   Both closures will remain in effect until rescinded. Road closure signs will be posted in advance to alert the public. For information contact the Moose Creek Ranger District at 926-4258.
   Warren Wagon Road Widening and Surfacing Project ends mid-September (PIC AVAILABLE)
   WARREN -- The Warren Wagon Road Widening (FH21) project, which started July 6, is planned to be completed by mid-September. Warren Wagon Road FH21 shall remain open to all traffic except during blasting periods. Traffic delays will be 30 minutes or less.
   If rock blasting is required, temporary road closures will be allowed through Oct. 1, 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Pilot cars will shuttle traffic through the work area every 30 minutes. Currently the contractor is working all day Monday through Thursday and the morning hours on Friday.
   The intent of the contract is to widen and repair 2.1 miles of the Warren Wagon Road by constructing mechanically stabilized earth walls, widening existing cut/fill sections and improving drainage measures. Work also includes surfacing 2.7 miles of road with an optional 3.2 miles of additional road surfacing. This project includes mechanically stabilized earth walls, riprap, removing existing culverts, new culverts, excavation (rock and earth), removing and resetting existing concrete barriers, new concrete barriers, crushed surfacing and minor clearing and grubbing.
   Salmon River Road construction open during Labor Day Weekend
   During the Labor Day weekend, that portion of the Salmon River Road under construction will be open to public traffic from 6 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, through 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7.
   The contractor will be performing various activities through Sept. 3 including surveying for the subgrade, continued rock scaling and drilling within the wall 8/9 location.
