| Writer incorrect on Ten Commandments |

| Letter - Holsinger |

In reply to the letter of Kirsten Faith Richardson of Jan. 24: Several times she asserts that she is a Christian, but evidently she is that kind of Christian who doesn't know anything about the Bible. She links all sin and crime together -- including the sin of homosexuality -- as a transgression of the Ten Commandments. But which of the Ten Commandments condemns homosexuality? The practice is condemned in other parts of the Law of Moses, but not by the Ten Commandments law. Those who actually read the Bible in its context and setting, know that the Ten Commandments were only given to the nation of Israel (Exodus 20:2; Deuteronomy 5:1-5). Furthermore, this Devine legislation was enacted with penalties attached, as found in other parts of the Law of Moses. In many cases the penalty was death. For instance, if a child failed to honor their parents in some way, the penalty was death by stoning at the gate of the Hebrew city (Exodus 21:15; Leviticus 20:9; Deuteronomy 21: 18-21). There was no appeal, no mitigating circumstances, and no last minutes 'pardon from the governor.' The Ten Commandment law, when it was enforced as the law required, was truly a "ministry of death, in letters engraved on stones" (2 Corinthians 3:7). This is the harsh, merciless law that Ms. Richardson wants to impose on all the land. Jesus said, "I have not come to call righteous men but sinners to repentance" (Luke 5:32). By this standard He certainly didn't come to call Ms. Richardson or any other Christian Pharisee, but rather he came for the repentant homosexual and abortionist, and all of those who know that they are not righteous, and who repent of their sinful nature, and if necessary, forsake their whole way of life, because they know that the Savior has already paid the penalty for sin on the cross.
