Jeffrey Jay Adams, 45 Jeffrey Jay Adams, 45, of Kamiah, died Thursday, Aug. 19, in Scottsdale, Ariz. He had been fighting cancer since December 2007 and had just recently traveled to Scottsdale, Ariz., in order to take part in a new chemotherapy clinical trial. He was born Nov. 28, 1964, in Lewiston, Idaho, to Jack and Kathy Adams. He began school at Lewiston's McSorely Elementary and then moved across the river to Clarkston, Wash., in the second grade. He lived in the Clarkston Heights and attended Highland Elementary, Lincoln Middle School and Clarkston High School. He graduated from Asotin High School in 1983 after transferring there his junior year. Always involved in athletics, he especially enjoyed playing ball at AHS because of the coaching he received from Rick Wilcox in football and Don Detrick in basketball and baseball. Jeff was a great second basemen and spent his summers playing legion ball for the LC Cubs and the LC Twins. After high school he attended Eastern Washington University and planned to play baseball there until a serious knee injury ended that opportunity. He moved from the Lewis-Clark Valley to the Clearwater Valley in the late '90s when he began working for Pankey Foods in Kooskia. Of the many duties he had at the store, he most enjoyed working as butcher because it gave him time to joke around with and talk to the customers. Due to his illness he was not able to work these past few years and he missed seeing the friends he made there. He was also a respected high school basketball referee and was honored to be selected to officiate at the Idaho state basketball tournament the year before he became ill. When possible he loved going to rock concerts, listening to music, playing golf, white-water rafting, cooking big meals for his kids, watching sports, camping, driving his old Jeep, and socializing with his friends and family. He was always the life of the party with a funny story to tell and a smile on his face. He was married twice with both unions ending in divorce but producing wonderful children. He and Tracy Anderson of Cottonwood have two children together, Jacob, 12, and Gabrielle, 15. He and his second wife, Monique Young of Grangeville, have a daughter, Bailey, who is 6. Of the many hats he wore, his true calling was as a father. His children were the absolute center of his life and he was devoted to them. He had a great sense of humor and consistently kept everyone entertained and laughing with his hilarious stories. He excelled at making fun plans and keeping things interesting. He and his kids loved spending time together at the family cabin at Newsome. He also enjoyed taking them on hikes, especially into Johnson Hot Springs, to the beach, camping up the Selway and Lochsa, fly-fishing and on road trips to the Oregon coast. He is survived by his three children, Gabrielle, Jacob and Bailey; his mother, Kathy Berkey of Kamiah; his dad, Jack and Claudia Adams of Clarkston; his brother, Cale and Valerie Adams and their children, Zachary Taylor and Blake Bowers of Portland, Ore.; his sister, Heidi and Rocky Baker and their sons, Wyatt and Zane of Mead, Wash.; his stepsister, Marci and John Hines of Phoenix, Ariz.; his stepbrother, Dr. Sean and Cathy Urquhart of Lewiston.
