The Elk?City Airport hosted the Clearwater Valley Flying Club for breakfast May 11.
By (Elk City) - Jamie Edmondson

ELK CITY - Looks like we have several ways to honor our veterans this Memorial Day starting with the traditional Memorial Day Bridge Ceremony on Sunday, May 26, at noon. It is sponsored by the VFW Wilderness Post 8311. Participants will meet at the VFW Hall at 11 am.
Everyone is invited to start Memorial Day weekend off at the Elk City Saloon & Café where there will be karaoke and a bonfire on Friday Night, May 24, with steak and seafood dinner specials and ice cold drinks. They will also be offering a lasagna, salad and garlic bread dinner special this Thursday for Kid's Cuisine day. Everyone is welcome.
No matter what we plan to do, let's thank those veterans near and far, active or retired, for their selfless service to us.
On May 11 the Elk City airport hosted the Clearwater Valley Flying Club for breakfast at the Elk Creek Station where they enjoyed "imported" blueberries in their pancakes. There were six aircraft and one transient aircraft landing that day with a total of 11 people showing up. (see photo)
The theme for Elk City Days this year is "Ropin' the Wild." Boxes for suggesting a person or couple to serve as grand marshals for Elk City Days are located at The Station, The Saloon, The Store, Reno Club and the VFW. Or you can make a suggestion by email at: elkcitydays@yahoo.com. Suggestions will be accepted until May 31.
Hiking for Healthy Hooters was a big success. The children at the school and community members walked a mile to raise money for breast cancer research and support. They received purple tie-dyed shirts that looked wonderful against the green grass and trees of the forest. Lily Denham was proud to be first this year but even more proud that she beat her older brother in the race! Becky Hayes and Sue Phillips organize the Hikin' for Healthy Hooters Elk City ghost walk each year. Becky was kind enough to make a donation to REACH Club for their participation through the years.
REACH Club has a full time AmeriCorps position open. It begins the end of summer and goes through the school year. If you are interested, contact Delise at the school. Applications are due at the end of the month.
There is a position that has opened up at the post office here in Elk City. The announcement is posted on the bulletin board there but it is for a post office clerk. The interview will take place in Grangeville and one has to apply online at www.usps.com/employment. The hours and days will vary. Contact Teresa at the post office for further information.
Have you ever thought about being an EMT? Taking an EMT course is a great way to learn about caring for the sick and injured and serve our great community. You gain a great deal of knowledge that you can use in your daily life from this course. Talk to Delise Denham, Teresa Enos, Aubree Chaffee, Ellen Bartlett or Jeremy Watkins about the EMT course. They completed or taught the course two years ago and can answer any questions.
Meetings: Sew Help Me Quilters on May 28.
Birthdays: Tommie Phillips, Halley Altman, Berkeley Susan Cox, Joe Jones and Darby Selman.
    Anniversaries: Bryan and Katie Cox.
