By PEOPLE (Riggins) - Jeannie Fitch
RIGGINS -- School year 2010/2011 is just beginning at Riggins Elementary and Salmon River High School with the new four-day school week. SRHS classes begin at 8:05 a.m. and will run through 4 p.m.; breakfast begins at 7:55 a.m. in the multipurpose room. Riggins Elementary classes will begin at 8:15 a.m. and run through 3:55 p.m.; the playground will have supervision starting at 7:55 a.m.; breakfast will be served in the ASK building from 7:55-8:15 a.m. Parents are asked to try to schedule doctor's and dentist's appointments and other student involved events on Fridays to ensure school attendance does not suffer. With the four-day week students are only allowed to miss seven days rather then the nine days of the past. Lots of fall school events are in the works including SRHS football and volleyball as well as other activities. Check with both schools for a complete schedule of fall happenings.

Tom Tumelson would like to thank all his friends and family for one awesome surprise birthday bash! "I was totally surprised! I want to thank the River Rock Band, my brother, Lee and Cat, my lovely wife, Bert, and special thanks to David and to the one who laid this all down and made it happen, my beautiful daughter Kali Lu! It was so cool and I will never forget this one! Thanks, again. Love, Tom Tumelson."
August 2010 did have five Sundays, five Mondays and five Tuesdays due to August beginning on a Sunday, however I learned this week that 800 years is far from being correct for this to happen again. August begins on a Sunday on an average of seven years with 11 years being the longest gap between such occurrences. August beginning on Sunday follows a 6-5-6-11 pattern. We are approaching the end of that cycle now. For details, go to snopes.com.
The Salmon River Farmers' Market, located in the Riggins City Park, will be ongoing every Thursday from 3-6 p.m. through September and into October until the farmers run out of produce. Get on down to the park and get some great produce and baked items.
The free fit and fall proof exercise class that you can join any time is open to anyone who wants to improve their strength, balance, flexibility, and mobility while decreasing their risk of falling meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 10-11 a.m. at the Salmon River Community Church fellowship room. This free class is sponsored by the Idaho North Central Public Health District with its trained volunteers to help adults stay fit and improve their balance doing gentle movements. For information, contact Gloria Mortenson at 628-2744 or Berneice Morell at 628-3828.
