WHITE BIRD -- Talented Slate Creek artist, Gloria Teats, is the featured artist for the month of September at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown. Don't know what you were doing this past year, but Gloria has been busy, as 35 new canvases will be displayed at this special show, which opens next week, Thursday, Sept. 2. The public is invited to a reception at The Barn on Saturday, Sept. 11, from 1-4 p.m. when Gloria will be honored. Also, she will be on location during the Harvest Festival that takes place at The Barn during Labor Day weekend. Congratulations, Gloria!
Salmon River 4-H Club members did really well at the Idaho County Fair last week, and carted home a wagon full of blue ribbons that they won. In her class, Jaycee Marek won Junior Grand Champion Demonstrator for market animals, and Bailey Cullin won the same in her class. Congratulations to both of these young ladies for such honors! In steers, Bailey Cullin placed first both days in her class for Fitting and Showing, and Market. Tyrell Cullin placed fourth both days in the same category. Bo Marek, Sydnee Kaschmitter and Jack Marek, each earned blue ribbons both days in Fitting and Showing, and Market, for their classes. In Fishing, DJ Halbert won Top Grand Champion for his fishing display. In Cake Decorating, Tressie and Treana Hansen, and Erin and Brianna Chevez won blue ribbons for their cakes in their class, and Emily Kernutt also won the blue ribbon in her class. In Dogs, Tristan Zumalt won two blue ribbons in Showing for his dog. In Lambs, JoJo Thorsell, Jarom and Bladen Farmer all won the blue ribbon in their classes. In Hogs, Cassie Chandler won blue ribbons in both classes and second in Fitting and Showing in her class; Jaycee Marek, Noah and Jake Kaschmitter, and MacKenzie and Micaela Farris each won blue ribbons on both days. In Welding, Jack Marek received the blue ribbon for his class. Wow, what a great bunch of kids! Congratulations to all, including the 4-H leaders, Heather and Tom Cullin (Steer, Dairy, Welding and Fishing), Carrie Marek (Pigs and Lambs), Beth Dalgliesh (Cakes). In case any non-4-H folks are wondering, Fitting and Showing awards are judged on the child, and Market is judged on the animal.
Another quick 4-H note about the Salmon River 4-H Boosters -- due to generous contributions, the boosters were able to buy back four market animals! All of the 4-H leaders are very appreciative of everyone's donations, and give a big "Thank You"' shout-out to all.
Thanks to Joanne Quinn and hubby, Dennis, for collecting the area's recyclables this past Saturday, and trucking a pickup full to the Fenn post. Recycling is scheduled for the third Saturday of every month, so if you missed this past Saturday, keep up the recycle efforts, saving plastic bottles (no lids), cardboard, newspaper, etc., for the next time in September.
Tomatoes from Eric Hickman were grandly displayed at the Grangeville Farmers' Market this past Saturday, along with "Hansel and Greta" eggplant, some cantaloupe and other garden goodies. Slate Creek artisan and gardener, Shawn Smith, also had a booth selling fresh cut flowers and her famous gourds.
Happy birthday greetings to Kadie Whinery, Jessica Robinett, Jake Schacher, Forest Wilson, Bill Asker, Carroll Adkison, Kylie McClanahan, Danny Booze, Bobbie Cook, Kelley Robinett, Jake Finley, Gary Cook, Mike Wilt, Bob Turney, Ward Leland and Justin Sickels.
