Photo: Full news
Free Press/Matthew Neal
Prairie’s Devin Schmidt fights for a rebound during the Pirates’ 52-48 win over the Castleford Wolves during the 1A Division I state basketball title game on Saturday, March 6, at the Idaho Center in Nampa. It was the first time in 28 years that the Cottonwood school won a state basketball title. Schmidt led his team in scoring with 16 points, including six field goals and 4-of-4 free throws. Top left, Pirate Brandon Waller, who played with a swollen ankle, drives inside for a lay-in in the second quarter. Waller finished the game with 12 points.
