Grangeville’s Juston Lindsley won his third consecutive boys discus title May 18 at the 2A state championships at Middleton High School. As a sophomore, Lindsley threw 153 feet in the final; as a junior, he threw 157-3; and last Saturday, he launched it 159 feet. He’ll join Boise State University’s track and field program this fall.

MIDDLETON - After the first meet of the season, Grangeville throwers coach Ted Lindsley was concerned about slick concrete throwing circles at Middleton High School's sparkling new digs, but said the surface was in better shape for the final meet of the track and field season last Friday and Saturday, May 17-18.
GHS senior Juston Lindsley made the most of his final crack at the discus throw - an event he has dominated in state competition the last three years - with a first-place throw of 159 feet. His championship - worth 10 points in team scoring - helped boost the boys into a three-way tie for second place with Melba and North Fremont at 56 points apiece, trailing only West Side.
Bulldogs senior Kaleb Bass placed sixth in the 800 (2:05.56) and 10th in the 1600 (4:54.30), one-hundredth ahead of freshman Diego Barela (11th, 4:54.31). GHS senior Caleb Barnes placed third in the high jump (6-0).
"Our senior leadership was outstanding and we had many young athletes competing at state who learned from them," coach Larson Anderson said. "Our future is still bright even though we will lose great athletes to graduation."
Junior Quaid Blankenship set a school record in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 40.86 seconds, good for second place. He also placed third in the 100 meter dash (11.37 seconds).
Bulldogs tenth grader Drew Lindsley placed third in the discus (154-1) and fellow sophomore Michael Stevens placed sixth in the triple jump (41-1) and eighth in the intermediate hurdles (43.36).
The boys scored in all four relays, placing eighth in the 4x100, fifth in both the 4x200 and medley, and third in the 4x400.

Graduating on the girls side are Anne Eimers (who tied for 12th in the high jump at 4-8; and sixth in the pole vault at 8-6) and Megan Johnston (who placed 14th in the shot put at 80-7). The girls team's streak of top-four team finishes ended at 14 years.
Sophomore Kaleala Bass placed third in the quarter-mile and freshman Hailey Sullivan scored in both the 100 (sixth, 13.00) and 200 (fifth, 27.14).
In the field, freshman Madison Brown placed sixth with a 15-8.25 mark in the long jump and seventh with a 32-8 mark in the triple jump. Junior Taylor Hazelbaker heaved the shot put 32 feet, five inches for fifth place.
"I am very proud of our performances," Anderson said.
