Grangeville routs Kellogg
Football

KELLOGG -- What a difference a game makes.
Grangeville won its season-opening football game against St. Maries on Aug. 27, but coach Jeff Lindsley was the first to admit there was plenty of room for improvement.
And improve is exactly what the Bulldogs did.
Grangeville scored early and often en route to a 42-14 thumping of host Kellogg on Friday, Sept. 3.
Justin Robie broke loose on several big runs and scored three touchdowns in all.
Robie put the first six points on the board with a 44-yard run in the first quarter.
"We blocked well and gave him some daylight," Lindsley said. "But he did a lot of that on his own."
   Robie was far from finished.
The Bulldogs took a 14-7 first-quarter lead after Ryan Koberstein punched it in from three yards out.
The second quarter belonged to Grangeville.
Quarterback Tate Sowers found Derek Brown for a 48-yard score and then Robie found paydirt on a 75-yard gallop to put the Bulldogs ahead 27-7 at the half.
There was nothing Kellogg could do in the second half to close the gap.
Robie opened the second half with a 28-yard touchdown run and Nick Smith capped the scoring with a 2-yard touchdown.
"I think we got after people a little bit more and played with more confidence," Lindsley said.
The recipe for success had two ingredients, Lindsley said.
"They had more confidence and had more fun," he said. "The two go hand-in-hand and it showed."
Lindsley said he was pleased with the way the team played defensively, allowing just one touchdown per half.
Next up for Grangeville is a home game against Asotin on Friday at 7 p.m.
Lindsley said the team will need to tighten up its defense to prepare for Asotin's productive offense.
