SUNNYSIDE — Henry “Hank” and Jeannette (Morin) Ebbelaar are celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary with an open house, hosted by their children. Family and friends are welcome to attend to celebrate their special day from 1-5 p.m. Feb. 24, 2018, at the SunnyView VFW Post hall, 615 North Ave. After a first date over a glass of milk, they were married Feb. 28, 1963, at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Long Beach, Calif. In 1967, they relocated to Outlook, Wash. where they operated their dairy farm, Ebb-tide Holsteins, which they operated for more than 40 years. Though they are mostly retired now, they enjoy providing bird releases for weddings, funerals and other special events, through their small business, Wings of Love. Hank is often seen releasing his doves at veteran events. Hank also drives a school bus part time for the Granger School District. They have eight children Judy (Terry) Wentz, Carol (Ron) Roller, Ken (Deb) Hicks, Sherry DeLeo, Pam Ebbelaar, Ted (Vickie) Ebbelaar, Henry Ebbelaar Jr. and Rhea (Chris) Tait, who live between Yakima and Tri-Cities. They also have been blessed with 24 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren four great-great-grandchildren. They live in Outlook.

Bailey Morris and Jake Dibbert of Sunnyside were married Oct. 21, 2017 in an early evening ceremony in the Cascade Gardens. Brandon Casas officiated the outdoor ceremony which took place under a white ramada. The bride is the daughter of Mike and Kim Taylor Morris of Sunnyside and he is the son of Bruce and Theresa Dibbert of Sunnyside and Tammy Still. The wedding party included Hannah Klockner of Yakima as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Brittany Byma, Marisol Bos, Diedre Dalton and the bride’s sister- in-law Bethany Morris. All of Sunnyside. The bride’s niece Graycee was flower girl and her nephews Noah McNair and Mercury Morris were ringbearers. The groom’s best man was Dan Dalton of Sunnyside and attendants were Rick Murray, Mitch Duim, Cole Joliff and Jorge Arriaga, currently serving in the Air Force in Florida. The guests were seated by the bride’s brother Riley Morris. She is a Registered Nurse at PMH Medical Center in Prosser and he is a pipefitter on the Hanford Reservation.

LEAVENWORTH — The Na-Mu Lodge was the setting for the Nov. 11 wedding of Jason Dolan of Sunnyside to Andrea Galassi of Springfield, Va. The afternoon wedding, officiated by the bridegroom’s friend Tucker Kellogg, was followed by a reception at the lodge. The ceremony was small, set in the mountains with family and friends present. A wedding trip to Kauai, Hawaii is planned for next June. Both are firefighters with the Fairfax County Fire Department in Virginia.

The Airfield Estates Winery was the setting for the Sept. 2 wedding of former Grandview residents Tanya Gomez and Eric Johnson. She is the daughter of Emma Gomez and he is the son of Mike Johnson. Lia Pena of Grandview was maid of honor and bridal attendants included Samantha Thornton, Erica Gomez and Sandra Newman, all of Grandview. Elizabeth Newman was flower girl and Isyss Gomez of Richland was ringbearer. Aaron Ling of Spokane was best man and ushers were Enrique Ochoa and Jesus Reyes, both of Grandview and Jeremy Garza of Sunnyside. Following a wedding trip to Lincoln City, Ore., the couple is at home in Richland, where he works for Balfour Beatty Construction. She is a teacher’s assistant at EPIC. The bride is a graduate of Grandview High School, Yakima Valley Community College and Washington State University. She is also a writing consultant at YVC. The bridegroom, who also is a Grandview High School graduate, graduated from Central Washington University in Ellensburg.

Bernie and Marlene Charvet celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with a two-week cruise, including passage through the Panama Canal The couple was married Nov. 12, 1977, at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Yakima. Marlene was a registered nurse for more than 40 years and retired in 2015. Bernie retired from SS Steiner Hop Corporation in 2016. They have lived in their Grandview home for the entire 40 years. They have a daughter, Krista Gustafson of Boise Idaho, three grandchildren Xander, Seveja and Noah Gustafson. They enjoy gardening and spending time with their grandchildren.

The bride to be is the daughter of Eduardo Rincon and Aurora Arevalo of McAllen Texas. Sky is the son of John and Belinda Gomez of Grandview. Cynthia is a graduate of McAllen Memorial High School and Texas A&M University. She is a registered nurse at Doctor’s Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg. Sky is a graduate of Grandview High School and YVCC. He attended Washington State University and is employed at Clark Chevrolet in McAllen.

A reception followed at the SEL Event Center in Pullman. Matron of honor was Julie Wedam, sister of bride. Bridesmaids included Corrin Veiga, Sarah Giebel and Vickie McPartland-Herbol. Best man was Patrick Gavin (brother of the groom), Groomsmen were Ben Nantasai, Brandon Treichler and Eric Desmarais. Colors/Theme was Crimson and Gray (Go Cougs!) with black and white to represent the Holstein cows that brought the couple together. They met in Dairy Club. The bride’s dress was from Fashion Corner and the floral arrangements were from Morris Floral. The wine was from Coyote Canyon Winery and McKinley Springs Winery, both in Prosser. The bride is the daughter of Mike and Sue Wedam of Sunnyside. The bridegroom is the son of Mark and Deborah Gavin of North Bend. Kevin currently attends veterinary school at Washington State University and will graduate in 2018. Kristen currently works for Washington State University and Pullman Regional Hospital. He graduated from Mount Si High School in 2011 and she graduated from Sunnyside High School in 2010. Both Kevin and Kristen earned Bachelor of Science degrees from Washington State University in 2015. The couple will move from Pullman to the Yakima Valley after Kevin graduates. The bride and groom are very thankful for those who celebrated with them — in person and in spirit — as they begin their new journey together.

BERNALILLO, N.M. — Former Lower Yakima Valley residents Phyllis Burton of Sunnyside and Milton Ramsey of Grandview fell in love when they were both in high school in 1938. They dated for four years but were separated when Milton joined the U.S. Army Air Corps at the beginning of World War II. The couple decided to get married when Milton was home on leave in August 1942. They will celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary on Aug. 8, with family at a dinner hosted by their children in Bernalillo, NM. “They have lived many places, and had many adventures, but none as wonderful as being married to each other for 75 glorious years,” said their daughter, Marikay Ramsey.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Robert and Linda Marquez of Mabton, Vanessa is a graduate of Mabton High School, Yakima Valley Community College and Washington State University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and human development. She is employed as education program manager for Planned Parenthood of Greater Washington and North Idaho in Sunnyside. Frias’ parents are Senorino and Maria Isabel Frias of Grandview. Edwin received his education in Grandview and is employed as a machine operator at FruitSmart in Grandview.

He is retired from the Yakima Valley Farmworkers Clinic and Romana is a retired Sunnyside School District food service worker. They have four children: Jesse, Jr., Maria Elena, Jose and Lupita. SUNNYSIDE — Married on April 2, 1967, Sharon and Ervin Kilian will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at a gathering of family and friends Saturday at Calvary Lutheran Church, 11th and Harrison Avenue. Sharon and Ervin have four children, Carl Kilian, Missy Clymer, Colleen Goulet and Jenny Tobin; and 16 grandchildren. The couple have lived and farmed all their lives in the Sunnyside area. She also worked for Calvary Lutheran Pre-School for 20 years. Both have been very active in the organization of the annual Sunnyside Lighted Farm Implement Parade.

They have lived in the area for 58 years. They have one daughter, Tamera Alderman of Pasco. They also have two grandchildren. He worked at Valley Auto Parts for 18 years and she was employed at Price Chopper for 23 years.

Lucilia (Lucy) Rangel and Hipolito (Paul) Vargas Jr. of Sunnyside exchanged wedding vows on Dec. 10 in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church chapel, while the world outside was covered in snow. “I wanted snow for our wedding pictures,” the bride said. Following the 2 p.m. ceremony, the newlyweds paused for family photographs in the white covered landscape before joining family and friends for a reception at Navarro’s Family Center in Sunnyside. Serving as her Friends of Honor were Christy Vargas and Jessica Tovar. Groomsmen included Agustin Villegas, Miguel Rangel, Antonio Rangel, Joel Martinez, Ismael Vargas, Alejandro Vargas, Miquel Angel Martinez and Adrian Vargas. Gabby Gomez and Nyeli Ramos were the flower girls. Also, attending the couple were their children Joshua Rangel, Irene Rangel, Mya Vargas and Enrique Rangel. She is the daughter of Amada and Miguel Rangel of Sunnyside and he is the son of Hipolito Vargas of Sunnyside and the late Juanita Sanchez of Grandview. The bride is employed by the Sunnyside School District and he is employed by Wyckoff Farms of Prosser. The couple is making Sunnyside their home.

The bride, the daughter of Jose Abel and Rosa De La Cruz of Sunnyside, chose a burgundy red formal as her wedding dress. Following a reception at the Chapel, the couple is now making their home in Mabton. She is a Mabton High School graduate and is employed as sales representative for The Daily Sun. He is a Grandview High School graduate and is employed for Hogue Cellars in Prosser.

SUNNYSIDE — They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary and her 90th birthday on July 3 at Snipes Mountain Brewery and Restaurant. He will celebrate his 92nd birthday on Dec. 21. Ralph and Alice Prescott, were married July 5, 1946, in Polson, Mont. The couple has made Sunnyside their home for the majority of their married life. They lived in California from the 70s through the 80s, before returning to retire. He was a heavy equipment diesel mechanic and she retired as an insurance clerk at JCPenneys. They also owned and operated the Sunnyside Roller Skating Rink early in their married life. They continue to live in the home they built in 1954. The couple have two grandchildren, Keith and Kurtis Sparrow, and a number of great-grandchildren.

LEUVEN, BELGIUM – Julie Wedam of Sunnyside married Stijn VanTongerloo in a Belgium civil ceremony Aug. 10, which is mandated by law. The couple, then, recited their wedding vows in a Catholic marriage ceremony Aug. 13 in historic St. Kwintens Church. It is required in Belgium, and most of Europe, for there to be a civil marriage ceremony before the couple is allowed to have the religious ceremony, the bride’s mother, Sue Wedam said. The bride is the daughter of Mike and Sue Wedam, DVMs, of Sunnyside and the bridegroom is the son of Roger and Maria VanTongerloo of Belgium. The couple was attended by her sister, Kristen Wedam of Pullman, and his friend Merijn Fagard of Leuven. The bride’s lace wedding dress was purchased from Fashion Corner and carried by her mother to Belgium for the occasion. She graduated from Sunnyside High School in 2008 and from Washington State University in 2012. She earned her Master of Science in anthropology from Katholieke University, Leuven, in February 2016. The newlyweds met while they studied at Katholieke University, where he has earned two Master’s degrees. He works as a translator and is an editor of a number of written documents. There was a reception and dinner was held for family and friends following the church ceremony. The ceremony was attended by friends and family from the United States, as well as from all over Europe, including Ireland, Scotland and Russia. There will be an American reception at the Walter Clore Wine and Culinary Center in Prosser on Sept. 4. The newlyweds will make their home in Leuven.

Through the years, they have been active in First Baptist Church, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America. They are members of Sunnyside AmVets and Ladies Auxiliary. BERNALILLO, N.M. — Former Lower Valley couple Milton and Phyllis Ramsey are celebrating their 74th wedding anniversary today at their home. He was from Grandview and she was from Sunnyside when they met. The high school sweethearts were married Aug. 8, 1942, at the Presbyterian Church in Wapato, while he was home on leave from the U.S. Army Air Corps. Milton’s twin brother Morris was best man. During his career in the Air Force, the couple were stationed in Missouri, Idaho, Hawaii, Morocco, Spain and New Mexico. He retired from the military after a 30-year career. They have three children, Marikay of New Mexico, Michael of California and Thomas of Ohio; two grandsons, Wesley and Sean of Ohio.

She is currently employed as a case manager for international foster care with the Catholic Community Services of Western Washington. Plasencia is a youth minister at Charter Oaks Community College in Battleground. He is a 2009 graduate of Gov. John Rogers High School in Puyallup and a 2015 Western Washington University graduate of Bellingham. The couple are at home in Battleground.

A dinner will follow at 6 p.m. Meghan Stadheim of Albert Lea, Minn., married Drew Puterbaugh of Mabton in ceremonies on Jan. 2, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church in Albert Lea. She is the daughter of Richard and Sarah Stadheim of Albert Lea and he is the son of Stacy and Diana Puterbaugh of Mabton. Serving as her maid of honor was Ella Johnson. Previously, a wedding reception was held at the bride’s home in Albert Lea. She is a 2011 graduate of Albert Lea High School and a 2015 Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in agricultural business. Puterbaugh is a 2013 Sunnyside Christian High School graduate and will graduate in the spring of 2017 from Dordt College. He is also working on his degree in agricultural business.

He attended Wyo-Tech in Wyoming to study collision and repair. Gonzalez is currently employed at Bob Hall’s Greenway in Yakima. A graduate of West Carroll High School, Walter earned her Bachelor of Science degree in business administration and management from Grace College in 2011. The couple was married June 10, 1966 in Nampa, Idaho. They have lived in Sunnyside for the past 47 years. Both are retired Sunnyside School District teachers – he at the junior high and high school and she worked at Lincoln and Chief Kamiakin elementary schools.

Bridesmaids included Heidi Merrit, Kayla Elliott and Stormie Douglas, who wore black lace dresses with a champagne-colored underlay in keeping with the bride’s white, gold and black colored Great Gatsby scheme. Flower girls Sadie Merrit and Isabella Douglas wore gold sequin dresses with black sashes and gold crowns. The bridegroom and his groomsmen entered the ceremony to the music of the Star Wars’ “Imperial March.” His groomsmen included Matt Milanca and Mike Ryan. Elijah Elliott was the ring bearer carrying a Star Wars’ ring pillow. The couple’s wedding vows included the words “in a galaxy far, far, away.” The Star Wars-theme was also featured on the wedding cake with a handmade topper of the newlyweds holding light sabers. The wedding guests enjoyed a catered dinner from Sunnyside’s Bon Vino’s Bistro and Bakery, with music by DJ Garin Moore. A photo booth and complimentary photographs were also enjoyed. Following a honeymoon trip to southern California, the couple is at home in Moses Lake.

Celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary with the renewal of their wedding vows during a camping trip earlier this month were Fred and Alice (Bournazian) Guyer. The couple originally married on Aug. 7, 1954 and have called Sunnyside home for nearly 40 years. The camping trip at Lincoln Rock State Park was attended by seven of the Guyers’ eight children, including Karen Griebling, Fred Guyer II, Allen Guyer, Bill Guyer, Linda Dezellem, Craig Guyer and Andrew Guyer. The couple’s son, John, was unable to attend the celebration event. Also in attendance for the momentous occasion were 20 of the couple’s grandchildren, a great-granddaughter and the spouses of their children and grandchildren. Pastor Pat Beeman of Sunnyside United Methodist Church traveled to officiate over the renewal of the wedding vows.

Sunnyside High School sweethearts Don and Maxine (Coleman) Robertson will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with an open house Saturday, June 21, hosted by their children. The Robertsons’ open house will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. at their daughter Diane Robertson’s home, 1983 Apricot Rd., Grandview. They request “no gifts, please.” The couple was married June 18, 1954 in Grandview. For a time they lived in Illinois before returning to make Sunnyside their home. He worked for Laclede Steel Company in Illinois and later at Flodin’s Manufacturing in Sunnyside he finished out his work career at Hanford, where he worked for 20 years, retiring in 1994. She was a homemaker. Both were active in their community with him coaching t-ball teams, as well as being active in Cub and Boy Scouts and playing on local bowling teams. In addition, he raised cattle for 40-plus years. She was also an active volunteer, working with Girl Scouts, as a member of a local coffee club and the Sunnyside Garden Club. Both love family camping trips. They had seven children, Judy Robertson, Ron Robertson, Dave Robertson, Mike (Theresa) Robertson, all of Sunnyside, Terry (Kris) Robertson of Othello and Diana Robertson of Grandview. A daughter, Cherie Robertson, died in 1990. They also are blessed with 14 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. A granddaughter, Jenni Koehler, died in 1977. The couple celebrated their anniversary earlier this year with a trip to Nashville, Tenn. Two years ago they went on a cruise to Alaska.

Kenneth and Wanda Culver were married at a Granger gas station 70 years ago today. It wasn’t the emergency situation that the couple led Clay Bell, the Granger businessman and justice of the peace who married them, to believe. According to their son and only child, Stephen Culver, Wanda was underage. “Grandma liked my dad and told them they could get married if they thought they could,” he said. “She probably didn’t expect them to make it happen quite like that.” The couple changed the date of Wanda’s birth and told Bell that Kenneth was leaving to be in the military the next day, even though he was rejected for military service. Bell married the couple for 35 cents on Jan. 8, 1944. “He told them if it didn’t work out they could get their 35 cents back,” said their son. “All the relatives get a kick out of the story.” The couple, who have three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, will be celebrating the milestone with a private family dinner. “It worked out for 70 years,” said Stephen Culver. “It was a good use of 35 cents.”

The couple was wed on Oct. 25, 1963 at the First Baptist Church in Sunnyside. The Beckers have two daughters living in Fayetteville, N.C., Kim Hudgens and Kelly Ludwigsen. Mr. Becker also has a son, Ed Becker of Lewiston, Idaho. The Beckers have lived in Sunnyside a total of 49 years. Mr. Becker retired from the Ford Motor Company and Mrs. Becker recently retired from Banner Bank. The couple has seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Clifford “Cliff” and Marjorie “Marge” (Mitchell) McGhan of Grandview will celebrate 60 years of marriage tomorrow (Thursday). The couple was married on Oct. 24, 1953 in Grandview. The McGhans are high school sweethearts and married soon after graduating from Grandview High School. Mr. McGhan went to work at Boeing in Renton and Seattle for two years. The couple lived in Puyallup during that time. In 1955, the couple returned to Grandview, centering their lives around raising their five children – Teresa, Linda, Laurie, Kelli and Mike. The McGhans led Bluebird and Camp Fire groups, and attended many school activities and sporting events in which their children were participants. They also served as chaperones for school dances and field trips. Mr. McGhan worked for Prosser Packers and Twin City Foods for 43 years. He retired in 1999 as division manager. Mrs. McGhan was a stay-at-home mother and homemaker. She worked occasionally for Libby’s, the Grandview Herald and Old National Bank. The couple for many years enjoyed annual vacations to their favorite location, Cannon Beach, Ore. After the children were grown, the McGhans traveled to Ireland, Scotland, Wales, England and the Netherlands. The couple is now enjoying their “aging” children, their children’s spouses, 12 grandchildren – some with spouses – and 15 great-grandchildren. The couple plans to celebrate their anniversary quietly at home, counting their many blessings.

Mr. and Mrs. Maas grew up in Sunnyside and graduated from Sunnyside High School. They have lived in Grandview for 44 years. Together they raised six children, including Dean (Jill) Maas of Marysville, Kevin (Meg) Maas of Kennewick and Greg (Crystal) Maas of Moxee. Their three children planned their family vacations so they could host the celebration for their parents’ golden anniversary. Dr. Skinner has been a family physician for 36 years, practicing medicine in California, Arizona, Illinois and in Washington twice during his career. Mrs. Skinner was a stay-at-home mom throughout most of their marriage, and later worked as his office manager for 16 years of his medical career. She was also the Our Saviour’s Evangelical Lutheran Church secretary for 16 years. She has been the Lower Valley Community Concert Association headquarters director and director of operations for 20 years. The couple has been community concert members for 50 years, wherever they have lived. They also enjoy traveling. In addition to their three children, Sam, Catherine and Bob, the couple has five grandsons, Christopher, Alexander, Zackary, Andrew and Nathan Skinner, and two granddaughters, Erika Suzanne and Aspen Gordon.

Former Sunnysiders Larry and Kay Cole, now of Usk, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends Saturday, Oct. 5, at the home of their friends, Jim and Carol Case, 2900 Jones Rd., Wapato, from 2 to 7 p.m. The Coles were married Nov. 30, 1963 in Wenatchee, and later moved to Sunnyside. He co-owned and operated Sunnyside’s Larry and Bob’s Tire Town with Bob Bartley for many years. The Coles are now retired. That night, they left on the train for his service in the Air Corps, where he was a pilot instructor during World War II. They loved world travel and divided their time between homes in The Dalles, Sun Valley, Idaho, and the north/ central coast, where they made many happy memories with family and friends. Mollie Kay Skov and Jorge Ortega of Stamford, Conn., have announced their engagement. She is the daughter of Kay and Randy Skov of The Dalles, Ore. She graduated in 2003 from The Dalles High School, and graduated in 2007 from Linfield College. She graduated in 2011 from New York Medical College and is now employed at Stamford Hospital. He is the son of Carmen and Jorge Ortega, Sr., of Wappingers Falls, New York. He graduated in 2002 from Roy C. Ketchum High School, and in 2006 graduated from SUNY Oswego, N.Y. He graduated in 2012 from New York Medical College grad school, and is currently employed at Advanced Physical Therapy Center, Stamford, Conn. The couple plan a May 18, 2013 wedding at the Sunshine Mill in The Dalles.

Angela Marie Wallis and Alexander Eugene Erzen, both of Seattle, Wash., were married July 29 at Mt. Hood Organic Farms, in Mt. Hood. Sybil Nance, of Sukha Yoga Retreats, officiated. Attendants were Gregory Clarke, brother of the bride, and Tanya Erzen, sister of the groom. Tilda Erzen Quigley, niece of the groom, was flower girl. The wedding celebrated local resources and sustainability, including flowers and food sourced entirely from within the state of Oregon, and wine from Hood River. The newlyweds honeymooned in Aruba and Curacao, and will continue to live in Seattle. The bride is the daughter of Nancy and Keith Clarke, of Hood River, and Mike Wallis, of Sandy, Ore. She is a 1998 graduate of Hood River Valley High School and received her bachelor’s degree from Dickenson College in 2002 and her MPA from the University of Washington in 2007. She currently works for King County Housing Authority in Seattle as a resource conservation manager. The groom is the son of Bob and Sue Erzen, of Sequim, Wash. He earned his Master of Marine Affairs degree from the University of Washington in 2010 and works as waste reduction program manager for King County Solid Waste Division in Seattle.
