Pursuant to Title 36 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 261.50(b) the following acts are prohibited on designated portions of National Forest Service Land and Trails, as shown on the attached maps, within the Salmon River Ranger District of the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests. These restrictions are in addition to those general prohibitions in Title 36 CFR, Part 261, Subpart A, become effective July 24, 2018 and will remain in effect until rescinded.
When provided in an order, it is prohibited to go into or be upon any area which is closed for the protection of public health and safety. [Title 36 CFR 261.53 (e)].
Area Closure – Rattlesnake Creek Fire
Area Defined within: Commencing at Rapid River Trailhead travelling southwest along trail #113 to the Hells Canyon NRA boundary. From the Hells Canyon NRA boundary travelling south to the Payette National Forest boundary. From the Payette National Forest boundary travelling east along the Payette and Nez Perce – Clearwater National Forest boundary to the southeast corner of section 5. From the southeast corner of section 5 travelling north along the Forest boundary back to Rapid River Trailhead.
Note: Rapid River Trailhead Remains Open, however Trail #113 is closed to the public.
Pursuant to Title 36 CFR 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt:
Persons with specific written authorization for the otherwise prohibited act or omission.
Any Federal, State, or local officer or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of an official emergency duty.
Federal or State administrative personnel in the performance of an official duty.
Contractor and contractor’s personnel in the performance of contractual duties.

RATIONALE: The above emergency restrictions are necessary for PUBLIC HEALTH and SAFETY due to active wildfire in the area.
PENALTY: Violation of this order is prohibited by provisions of the regulations cited, and under 7 USC 1011(0, 16 USC 551, and 18 USC 3571(b)(6). Any violation is subject to punishment by a fine of not more than $5,000 or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both,
NOTIFICATION: A copy of this order shall be posted in the Forest Supervisor's Office and each District Ranger's office and other appropriate locations as prescribed under Title 36 CFR 261.51.
