Wilson returns, but Genesee rolls

Area basketball roundup

Genesee 53, Grangeville 42

GENESEE — Grangeville guard Michael Wilson returned to the lineup, but was limited to six points in his first action of the season. So as has been the case throughout the season so far, the bulk of the scoring burden was carried by senior Josh Dame, who pumped out seven field goals for 14 points. Sophomore Austin Parks added a dozen and sophomore Layton Harris scored six.

Grangeville lingered within three points at halftime, but was doomed by the third quarter, during which Genesee ramped its lead to 10.

Up next, Grangeville (3-2) is slated to return to action Jan. 4 at Coeur d’Alene Charter. The Bulldogs’ league slate opened against St. Maries last Saturday, Dec. 21, after the Christmas edition print deadline.

Genesee 48, CV 40 (girls)

KOOSKIA — Clearwater Valley had Genesee down after three quarters last Thursday night, Dec. 19, but couldn’t close out the Bulldogs, who rattled off 20 points — including several three-pointers — during the fourth quarter while limiting the Rams to nine over the same stretch.

Mika Charley and Savannah McHone powered the CV attack with 14 points apiece.

Up next for CV (4-5), is a Jan. 4 visit to Troy. The Rams played this year’s Upriver Rampage at Kamiah after the holiday edition print deadline last Friday night, Dec. 20. Check for the latest Free Press coverage of area athletes and events.

Summit 51, Timberline 25 (girls)

CRAIGMONT — Rachel Frei (12 points), Megan Seubert (12 points) and Ally Hale (10 points) turned in double-digit hoops as the Patriots stormed past Timberline last Thursday night, Dec. 19.

Summit put up 32 during the first half and limited the opposition to single-digit quarters in the course of doubling up the winless Spartans. Three games into their 1AD2 Whitepine League slate, the Patriots trail 5-0 Kendrick and 5-1 Nezperce in the standings — but the bulk of Summit’s league schedule is yet to come.

Up next, the Patriots (7-1) open 2014 with games against Nezperce and Kendrick on Jan. 7 and Jan. 9 at the old elementary school gym (located at 1916 East St. in Cottonwood.)
