RIGGINS — Happy New Year 2014! Wow, how can 365 days zip by so quickly! Well, they do, so hang on and get ready for another great fast ride in 2014! If you make New Year’s resolutions, now is the time to make them and carry them out.… if you don’t make resolutions, but have decided to make some positive changes, now is the time to make those changes and go with them.

ASK news

RIGGINS — The ASK Board (After School Kids) is currently in need of two board members. If you are interested, contact Jamie Simar. ASK, the After School Kids, Inc. program, received a new five-year grant this last summer. They currently have two ASK programs going with program manager Jamie Simar and business manager Rhonda Damon. One program is at Riggins Elementary School with teachers, Tracy Travis and Sarah Bovey. The second ASK program is located at SRHS with Susan Shepherd as the teacher for the junior high/high school program.

The ASK Board meets one time a month, usually the second Monday at 5:30 p.m. for about an hour and a half. The next board meeting will be Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at 5:30 p.m. in the ASK classroom. The ASK Board requests that you join them for at least one meeting and decide if this is workable for you. At the following meeting the board will nominate and elect you as a board member. Officer positions are filled at this time until September. Some months there are extra activities in which board members are asked to participate. The board members make cookies/treats for home football game raffles, goodies for elementary games, volunteer in the concessions for junior high/high school basketball, and other fund-raiser events like Super Bowl pizza-making, chaperone field trips, etc.

Jessie (Killgore) Wisenor, longtime Riggins and White Bird resident now living in Lewiston, will be 100 Jan. 14, 2014. Jessie is a sister to Jim Killgore of White Bird as well as several other siblings. Jessie was my neighbor for nearly 40 years until she moved to Lewiston.… oh, the stories she told me of traveling here in a covered wagon, riding horseback as a young girl, swimming in the Salmon River in the White Bird area, things she and Jim and their brothers and sisters did, waitressing at Summerville’s Café as well as cafés in Grangeville, driving a taxi and many more. Jessie was an independent little lady and full of energy and life. Happy birthday to a grand lady!

Jake and Stephanie (Zimmerman) Davis are the proud parents of a son, Eric Joseph, born Dec. 18, 2013, at 3:34 a.m. Eric weighed seven pounds, two ounces and was 21 inches long. He was welcomed home by his two sisters. Local grandparents are Rexann Zimmerman of Riggins and Bob Zimmerman of Lander, Wyo.; great-grandmother is Charlene Workman of Riggins.

Check out There are lots of good articles and great information on this site. Thank you SunCloud Productions for bringing this news source to our community. Norm Klobetanz started this on-line newspaper in October. Home, rivers, fishing, hunting, outdoors, nature, history, and local stuff are the categories to explore. The site also has quick links to Riggins weather, river conditions and fish counts. “We are trying hard to keep locals and guests up on the current river conditions including photos of city boat ramp and other areas of the river. You will also notice that we have advertisers. The pricing and options are available in a link at the bottom of every page,” said Jeannette Klobetanz. Contact Norm at
