Support groups available through YWCA in surrounding communities

Support groups for women experiencing or recovering from domestic violence and abuse are being offered by the YWCA at outreach offices in Grangeville, Orofino, and Kamiah. The weekly open group sessions continue for 8-weeks and cover a variety of topic areas.

YWCA advocates facilitate group discussion on topics such as defining abuse, patterns of abuse, coping with feelings and emotional abuse, survival and interpersonal skills, myths about domestic abuse, grief and loss, assertiveness, communication, setting boundaries, healthy relationships, and self-care.

Group participants learn strategies to stop the cycle of abuse, explore power and control, learn how to plan for their safety, build self-esteem, define healthy boundaries, acquire positive coping skills, and manage stress and anger.

Groups are held in Grangeville on Tuesdays at noon, in Kamiah on Wednesdays at noon, and in Orofino on Thursdays at 1:30. Participation is free and confidential. For more information contact the YWCA at 800-669-3176 or visit
