State sells timber sale
The Idaho Department of Lands sold a timber sale on Friday, Sept. 27, at Kamiah Upper Suttler Ton, located nine miles northeast of Kooskia, to Blue North Forest Products LLC. The estimated 33,902 tons was sold for an average price of $55.20 per ton. Proceeds will benefit the State Hospital South endowment.
Candy, prize donations sought for annual Halloween Trunk or Treat
GRANGEVILLE – Candy and prize donations are being accepted at the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office for the annual Halloween Trunk or Treat event, Oct. 31, Idaho County Courthouse parking lot in Grangeville.
The event (4-6 p.m.) is free to all Idaho County residents as a safe and unique way to “trick or treat” by going “trunk to trunk” in a family friendly, festive atmosphere, which is part of the community’s safe and sane Halloween program.
Sponsors are the Idaho County Sheriff's Office in conjunction with Grangeville police and volunteer fire departments, and the Syringa Hospital ambulance crew.

City is ending composting program
As of Oct. 1, the City of Grangeville is no longer taking material, such as leaves and grass, for composting at the wastewater treatment plant on Airport Road. Due to DEQ requirements the City will no longer produce compost.
The last compost material for sale will be in the spring of 2014.
Dave Ramsey financial classes ongoing this fall
GRANGEVILLE – The first class starts this Thursday in a series through Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University (FPU), sponsored by the Idaho County Republican Central Committee.
FPU is a nine-week series of classes that teach God’s way of handling money. Through video teaching, class discussions and interactive small group activities, FPU presents Biblical, practical steps to meet goals. This plan is designed to show participants how to get out of debt, manage money, spend and save wisely.
The first class will be held Thursday, Oct. 10, LCSC Adult Learning Center (105 North Myrtle Street, Grangeville; next to Lions Park) and will continue through Dec. 12 (no meeting on Thanksgiving). Cost for the membership kit is $93 per family and is a lifetime membership. Once enrolled, members can go through the session again at any location for no extra cost.

Oct. 15 public presentation set on State Health Exchange, Affordable Care Act
GRANGEVILLE – Guest speaker Steve Ackerman will give a presentation on Tuesday, Oct. 15, on the State Health Exchange and the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) and their impact on both businesses and individuals. The presentation starts at 6 p.m., Super 8 Motel meeting room, and is sponsored by the Idaho County Republican Central Committee. It is open to the public.
A resident of Kuna, Ackerman has more than 15 years teaching experience at universities in Idaho and California. He is the editor of the Gem State Patriot, a member of the Idaho Freedom Foundation's Board of Scholars, was an analyst with the Presidents Commission on Military Base Closure and Realignment, and is the former president of Provizio, a Meridian-based competitive intelligence firm.
