Prairie rocks CV, braces for Kamiah

— The Pirates of Cottonwood made the trip into the valley last Friday night, Oct. 4, but the host quickly found itself in a deep hole. Prairie scored first on a long run by Lucas Arnzen which touched off a series of big plays culminating in a 48-0 Pirates win.

Prairie scored five times on runs of 25 yards or more: Arnzen’s 78-yarder, Jake Bruner’s 56-yarder, Arnzen’s 25-yarder, Hunter McWilliams’ 27-yarder, Bruner’s 3-yarder and McWilliams’ 54-yarder.

Along with a handful of big pass plays — Bruner averaged more than 30 yards per completion — the Pirates totaled nearly 500 yards of offense.

The Pirates also scored on short runs by Bruner and Calvin Hinkelman.

Up next, Prairie (4-1, 3-0) will play at Kamiah on Oct. 11. CV (3-2, 0-2) will host Whitepine League favorite Troy that same night.

Kamiah 50, Potlatch 0

POTLATCH — The Kubs, who have been on the low side of several lopsided scores so far this season, trounced Potlatch 50-0 last Friday night, Oct. 4.

Lineman Jared Jagow scored his third touchdown of the season and was nominated for the Lewiston Tribune’s weekly honor poll.

Up next, Kamiah (2-4, 2-1) will host Prairie, which is presently the only three-win team in the Whitepine League. (Troy is undefeated.)

Salmon River 68, Horseshoe Bend 20

HORSESHOE BEND — The Savages trailed briefly when Horseshoe Bend broke a long run early last Friday night, Oct. 4, but went on to score a safety and three consecutive touchdowns to take charge of the contest.

Horseshoe Bend broke two more big plays, but in the end had no answer for Leighton Vander Esch, who threw for five touchdowns, ran for two and finished with 281 passing yards. Jimmy Shepherd had a hand in five scores.

Up next, Salmon River (6-0, 3-0 conference) will visit powerhouse Council on Oct. 11.
