A new book, Eyewitness to Idaho History, by Dr. Marion Shinn was released on March 11, the same day he turned 93 years of age. The book chronicles a life that has coincided with the history of north central Idaho from the decade of the 1920s until today. From being raised on the Joseph Plains west of White Bird, to teaching in a one-room school in Dixie, to becoming a professor at Lewis-Clark State College, Dr. Shinn has vivid memories of all the years. He has recorded the moments that have been an inspiration to him and will be an inspiration to all readers of the book. During World War II, Dr. Shinn served in the South Pacific on a submarine, the USS Guavina (CC362). In his retirement, he has served on the Lewiston City Council, a term as mayor, as a long-time member of Kiwanis, and has been a volunteer in a host of community activities. The book is available at the Nez Perce County Historical Society for $20 including tax. Questions can be addressed to Lyle Wirtanen at the Nez Perce County Historical Society, 816-8600.
