Diesel fuel spilled in Thursday semi-truck rollover on US 12

A diesel fuel spill has been cleaned up following last week’s semi-truck accident on U.S. Highway 12.

The driver, Johnny M. Campbell, 55, of Missoula, was uninjured in the Thursday, March 27, crash reported 52 miles east of Kooskia, according to Idaho State Police, that blocked the eastbound lane for 5.5 hours.

The incident was reported at 1:58 p.m. Campbell was driving his 1993 Kenworth westbound when at milepost 125.8 he drove off the right side of the road. The truck struck a rock outcropping, tearing off and rupturing the right fuel tank, resulting in a spill of between 80 to 100 gallons of diesel fuel. The vehicle rolled onto its left side, coming to rest in the eastbound lane. Campbell was wearing a seat belt.

Clearwater Environmental conducted cleanup. Scene assistance was provided by Kooskia Ambulance, Idaho County Sheriff’s Office, and the Idaho Transportation Department.
