‘150 Years Plus and Still Going Strong’ : Elk City Days sets fun for Friday, Saturday

ELK CITY – With the theme of “150 Years Plus and still going strong,” Elk City Days are set for Friday and Saturday, Aug. 8-9.

Friday will start with kids crafts in the park from 2 to 3:30 p.m. The Elk City Volunteer Fire Department will have concessions on Main Street from 4 to 7 p.m. and the kiddie’s parade is set to begin at the post office at 4:30 p.m.

It’s the Forest Service versus the town folks in a friendly game of baseball Friday at 6 p.m. The night will round out with a live band at The Saloon at 9 p.m.

Start Saturday bright and early with the VFW Auxiliary Breakfast at the VFW Hall from 7 to 10:30 a.m. The ping pong ball drop for the kids is set for 9 a.m. at the airport. ECVFD will have concessions all day and the Alliance Taco Concessions will be open on Main Street, both 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Check out the quilt show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Upper Main Street with the annual raffle drawing at 4:15 p.m.

The grand parade featuring grand marshal military veterans Joe King, Dave Newbigging, Rolph Olson and Ralph Crocker, will be held at 11 a.m. Sign-up is 10 a.m. at the post office.

The popular VFW sawdust dig is set for noon to 6 p.m., with the logging show starting at 1 p.m. at the EMT garage parking lot. The VFW auction will be held at 2 p.m. during the logging show and the ECVFD 50/50 drawing will be held at 4 p.m. At 4:10 the Chicken Walk winner will be announced at the taco booth.

The reunion social is set for 4:30 p.m. with dessert and ice cream at the city park. Cowboy Church will be held at the park at 5:30 p.m. and a live band is set to play at the VFW starting at 9 p.m.
