RIGGINS — Riggins community and the American Red Cross are hosting an upcoming blood drive. Join our lifesaving mission and schedule an appointment today! The blood drive will be held at the Salmon River Community Church fellowship room, 1102 S. Main St., Riggins, on Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 2-7 p.m. and Wednesday, Aug. 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Kris Catherman is in charge of the Red Cross Blood Drive, 628-3572. If you pre-signed, your date will be one day earlier. Also, if you are interested in volunteering, there are a couple of openings and they would appreciate hearing from you! If you have any questions, call Kris. The need for blood is constant and only volunteer donors can fulfill that need for patients in our community. Nationwide, someone needs a unit of blood every two to three seconds, and most of us will need blood in our lifetime. Thank you for supporting the American Red Cross blood program!

Planned power outage will occur Aug. 19

There will be a planned power outage Tuesday, Aug. 19, from 8-11 a.m. that will affect about 2,400 customers from New Meadows to Riggins. Customers affected will receive an automated call two days in advance of the outage. The automatic call system does not leave messages for customers. The outage is happening to allow Idaho Power to complete required power transformer testing in its New Meadows substation, as well as maintenance on an associated power line. The testing is required every six years, and all of the work completed will help ensure reliable electric service for customers. “We understand that any power outage is an inconvenience to our customers, and we appreciate their understanding,” said Idaho Power Area Manager Steve Moser. “Although the outage is only scheduled to last three hours, Idaho Power encourages affected customers to plan ahead to maintain comfort and convenience. It’s a good idea to charge mobile phones and other devices before the power is turned off, and to have a block of ice in the refrigerator to make sure food stays cold.” Customers with questions about the outage can call Idaho Power’s Long Valley Operations Center at 630-7908 or 630-7913.
