Chief Lookingglass celebration set for weekend in Kamiah

KAMIAH – Miss Lookingglass 2013-14 Dana Sotomish will lead the Chief Lookingglass celebration this weekend at Kamiah at the Wa’A’Yas grounds in town.

The 38th annual event is set to begin Friday, Aug. 15, with the memorial dinner at 11:30 a.m. and the memorial/name givings at 1 p.m. Everyone is invited to the grand entry exhibition – which includes colorful American Indian dress, dance and drums – at 7 p.m. Friday.

Saturday, Aug. 16, will begin at 7 a.m. with a huckleberry pancake breakfast followed by the Alex Cross Memorial Basketball Tourney at 9 a.m. Call 935-8028. At noon the friendship dinner will take place followed by dancing and drumming in the afternoon session. A Main Street parade is set for 6:30 p.m. with the grand entry first round for dancers.

Sunday, Aug. 18, will bring the grand entry finals at 1 p.m.

Arts and crafts vendors are invited to participate for $50 a day while food vendors pay $65. Those participating must provide their own generator, tables and garbage cans. Pay prior to setup.
