Keep watching as Lochsa swap is punted about

Letter: Shelley Dumas Grangeville

Huckleberries! Plentiful purple everywhere; big, luscious, juicy and free for the pickin’ and eatin’. The Fish Creek area has been a popular gathering spot as retirees, families, campers (and an ICFP reporter!) enjoy the fruits of their labor and this satisfying outdoor experience. Just a thought: Had the “local option” of the Lochsa Land Exchange been accepted and approved, the wonderful, accessible Fish Creek Recreation Area would be posted with “Closed,” “Private” and “No Trespassing” signs as that lovely public acreage would have been transferred to private ownership.

We Idahoans value our public lands. Please pay attention as the Lochsa Land Exchange (and equally insidious proposal to transfer public lands to state management) is punted about by our politicians.

Shelley Dumas
