A variety of church-related Christmas and holiday events are going on throughout the county. A partial list is as follows:


•The Monastery of St. Gertrude will host an Advent Retreat, Dec. 1-17 with private retreat options. Call 962-5065.

•St. Mary’s Catholic Church is hosting a Special Advent Concert Dec. 3, at St. Mary’s Church at 7 p.m. The artist will be Jaime Thietten. Admission is free. A freewill offering will be taken to help support Thietten’s ministry. Her CDs will also be available for purchase following the concert. Visit This is hosted by Tri-Parish Youth Ministry.

•Summit Academy will host its Nativity play Dec. 19, 7 p.m. This is free and open to the public and will be held in the Summit Academy gymnasium on Substation Road.

•Emmanuel Baptist Church will be having a Christmas Eve Candlelight Service, Wednesday, Dec. 24. They will present a Christmas cantata – “Christ Was Born For This,” performed by The Whispering Pines Southern Baptist Association Choir, at 6 pm.

•The Monastery of St. Gertrude, located at 465 Keuterville Road, will hold a Christmas Eve Mass at 7:30 p.m. with caroling at 7 p.m.) and a Christmas Day Mass at 11:30 a.m.

•The Monastery of St. Gertrude will host a Christmas concert Dec. 28, 2 p.m. Call 962-5065.


•Dec. 3, 10 and 17, evening informal advent worship services are set at Trinity Lutheran Church for 7-7:30 p.m., preceded by free soup suppers, 5:30-6:30 p.m.

•The Sts. Peter and Paul Christmas Luncheon, Bazaar and Raffle is set for Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 6 and 7.

•The United Methodist Church Women’s Bazaar and Pie Fellowship is set for Dec. 6, starting at 9 a.m., at the church, 404 W. Main Street.

•Kids and their families are invited to have breakfast and photos with Santa Saturday, Dec. 13, 10 a.m. to noon, at the Grangeville Church of the Nazarene.

•Syringa Hospice Tree of Lights memorial program is set for Sunday, Dec. 14, 2 p.m., at the Soltman Center. To request an ornament made in memory of a loved one call 926-4424.

•Valley Singers and Bell Ringers in conjunction with the Idaho County Orchestra will present a performance at the Grangeville Church of the Nazarene Sunday, Dec. 14, 3 p.m., 515 W. North 2nd Street. The group is under the direction of Larry Paul.

•Sts. Peter and Paul School will host its annual all-school Christmas program Dec. 17, 7 p.m. The dress rehearsal will begin that day at 10 a.m. The public is invited.

•The Grangeville Church of the Nazarene will present its Christmas program and Hanging of the Greens Sunday, Dec. 21, 6 p.m., at the church, 515 W. N. 2nd Street. All are invited.

•The Grangeville Christian Church, 402 W. S. 1st Street, will offer a Christmas cantata Dec. 21, 10 a.m.

•Sunday, Dec. 21, the children’s Christmas program is set for 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 210 N. Mill Street.

•Celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ Sunday, Dec. 21. The Christmas service will begin at 10 a.m., followed by a Christmas dinner. At 1 p.m., the Christmas program will be performed, ending with refreshments in the fellowship hall. All are invited to join in the love, laughter, and joy of this special season of grace. •Wednesday, Dec. 24, a Christmas Eve Candlelight service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church at 7 p.m.

•A Christmas Eve Candlelight service will be held Dec. 24 at Grangeville Christian Church, 7 p.m.

•The United Methodist Church will host a Christmas Eve service at the church, 404 W. Main St., 7 p.m.

•Thursday, Dec. 25, a Christmas Day service will be held at 9:30 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church.


•Santa will be in Greencreek after the 10 a.m. Sunday Mass, Dec. 21.


•Valley Singers and Bell Ringers in conjunction with the Idaho County Orchestra will present performances at Saint Catherine’s Catholic Church in Kamiah Dec. 4 at 7 p.m., and Dec. 7 at 3 p.m. The singers are under the direction of Larry Paul and the ringers are directed by Luanne Howard.

•The Life Center will hold its “Unfrozen” Christmas program Dec. 13, 7 p.m., and Dec. 14, 10 a.m.

•Faith Lutheran Church will celebrate the birth of Jesus with a candlelight Christmas Eve service starting at 5 p.m. The church is located at 6th and Idaho streets. Treat bags will be handed out for children. All are welcome.

•The Life Center will be host to a Christmas Eve service Dec. 24, 6 p.m.

•The Presbyterian Church in Kamiah will have a Christmas Eve service Dec. 24, 7 p.m.

•Faith Lutheran Church, 6th and Idaho streets, will host a fun night New Year’s Eve (Dec. 31) beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the church. Bring soup, bread, snack foods, etc. There will be games, singing, a movie and lots of stories and old-fashioned fun.

•December activities are set for Faith Lutheran Church located at 6th and Idaho streets in Kamiah. Worship service begins at 11 a.m. every Sunday. Refreshments and social time follows worship. Candlelight service on Christmas Eve at 5 p.m. There will be treat bags for kids and the young at heart. The annual fun night on New Year’s Eve will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the church. There will be soup and bread and a variety of snacks potluck style. It’s an evening of games, songs, a movie and just having some good fun together. Bible studies continue on Thursdays. The men meet at 7 a.m. at the bakery. Women meet at the church at 10 a.m.


•The Kooskia Presbyterian Church will hold a Christmas Eve service Dec. 24, 5 p.m. A soup supper will precede this.


•Riggins Assembly of God Christmas Bazaar is Dec 5 and 6. Call Kathy Scheline at 630-4160 to reserve tables at $10 a table; that money goes to the local Girls Ministries.

•Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. Riggins Assembly of God Church will present its Christmas program, “The Christmas Cross.” Twenty-two kids are participating.

•A Christmas Eve Service is planned for Dec 24 at 6 p.m. at Riggins Assembly of God Church. Contact Pastor Scheline at 630-4444 if you wish to participate in the program.


•The Stites Baptist Church is changing their worship hours on Sundays. Beginning Sunday, Dec, 14, worship will be at 6 p.m.

•The Whispering Pines Southern Baptist Association Choir will present a cantata “Christ Was Born For This” at 6 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 21, at the Stites Baptist Church (106 Main Street, Stites).

White Bird:

•The Christmas Tea at Pleasant View Baptist Church in White Bird will be Dec. 20, 10 a.m. Priscilla Giddings will be the guest speaker.
