Holiday happenings 2014


*Summit Academy will host its Nativity play Dec. 19, 7 p.m. This is free and open to the public and will be held in the Summit Academy gymnasium on Substation Road.

*There will be an ornament exchange at Prairie Community Library Dec 20 during the hours the library is open, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bring an ornament if you wish and have a cup of hot chocolate or coffee and cookies, visit and get books to keep the kids occupied during Christmas break.

*Emmanuel Baptist Church will be having a Christmas Eve Candlelight Service, Wednesday, Dec. 24. A cantata, “Christ Was Born For This,” performed by The Whispering Pines Southern Baptist Association Choir, will be performed. All are encouraged.

  • The Monastery of St. Gertrude, located at 465 Keuterville Road, will hold a Christmas Eve Mass at 7:30 p.m. (with caroling at 7 p.m.) and a Christmas Day Mass at 11:30 a.m.

*The Monastery of St. Gertrude will host a Christmas concert Dec. 28, 2 p.m. in the chapel featuring Marci Beckman, Laurie Karel, and other beloved local musical artists. Reception to follow. Call 962-5065.


*Sts. Peter and Paul School will host its annual all-school Christmas program tonight, Dec. 17, 7 p.m. The dress rehearsal will begin that day at 10 a.m. The public is invited.

  • Grangeville schools Christmas program for grades 6-12 is set for Thursday, Dec. 18, 7 p.m., in the GHS gym. This includes sixth grade band, 7/8 band, GHS band and jazz band, middle school choir, GHS Concert and Varsity Blue choirs and guitar class, all under the direction of Kathy Stefani.

*Grangeville Church of the Nazarene will present its Christmas program and Hanging of the Greens Sunday, Dec. 21, 6 p.m., at the church, 515 W. N. 2nd Street. All are invited.

*The Grangeville Christian Church, 402 W. S. 1st Street, will offer a Christmas cantata Dec. 21, 10 a.m.

*Sunday, Dec. 21, the children’s Christmas program is set for 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 210 N. Mill Street.

*Celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ Sunday, Dec. 21, at the Christian Reformed Church. The Christmas service will begin at 10 a.m., followed by a Christmas dinner. At 1 p.m., the Christmas program will be performed, ending with refreshments in the fellowship hall. All are invited to join in the love, laughter, and joy of this special season of grace. *Wednesday, Dec. 24, a Christmas Eve Candlelight service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church at 7 p.m.

*A Christmas Eve Candlelight service will be held Dec. 24 at Grangeville Christian Church, 7 p.m.

*The United Methodist Church will host a Christmas Eve service at the church, 404 W. Main St., 7 p.m.

*Thursday, Dec. 25, a Christmas Day service will be held at 9:30 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church.


*Santa will be in Greencreek after the 10 a.m. Sunday Mass, Dec. 21.


*Faith Lutheran Church will celebrate the birth of Jesus with a candlelight Christmas Eve service starting at 5 p.m. The church is located at 6th and Idaho streets. Treat bags will be handed out for children. All are welcome.

*The Life Center will be host to a Christmas Eve service Dec. 24, 6 p.m.

*The Presbyterian Church in Kamiah will have a Christmas Eve service Dec. 24, 7 p.m.

*Faith Lutheran Church, 6th and Idaho streets, will host a fun night New Year’s Eve (Dec. 31) beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the church. Bring soup, bread, snack foods, etc. There will be games, singing, a movie and lots of stories and old-fashioned fun.


  • Clearwater Valley Elementary School will host its Christmas program Dec. 18 at 1:30 p.m.

*Old Opera House Theater will offer its Old-Fashioned Christmas program Dec. 19 and 20, 7:30-9:30 p.m. Call 983-0094 to reserve tickets as this event sells out quickly for both nights.

*A Santa Fun Run for all ages is set for Saturday, Dec. 20, 10 a.m. The run will begin at Clearwater Valley Elementary School where participants will register. Jingle bells will be provided before the race starts, along with hot chocolate waiting at the finish line. The race will end at Clearwater Valley High School cafeteria where there will be a pie sale, including a gluten free selection. Dressing up in the spirit of the holiday is highly recommended.

*The Kooskia Presbyterian Church will hold a Christmas Eve service Dec. 24, 5 p.m. A soup supper will precede this.


*Riggins After School Kids, Inc. (ASK) will host its Winter Music Recital in the SRHS multipurpose room Dec. 17.

*Riggins Elementary School Christmas caroling, Dec. 18

  • A Christmas Eve Service is planned for Dec 24 at 6 p.m. at Riggins Assembly of God Church. Contact Pastor Scheline at 630-4444 if you wish to participate in the program.


*The Whispering Pines Southern Baptist Association Choir is proud to present a cantata “Christ Was Born For This” at 6 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 21, at the Stites Baptist Church (106 Main Street, Stites).

*The Stites Baptist Church is changing their worship hours on Sundays with worship at 6 p.m.

White Bird

*The Christmas Tea at Pleasant View Baptist Church in White Bird will be Dec. 20, 10 a.m. Priscilla Giddings will be the guest speaker.

*Annual Christmas Program at IOOF Hall is set for Dec. 20.
