Kinghorn crushes softball tourney in Vegas

NAMPA — Northwest Nazarene University junior Brianna Kinghorn, first baseman, was named the Defensive MVP of the Desert Stinger Classic held last weekend in Las Vegas.

Kinghorn recorded 43 putouts in five games in the tournament for the Crusaders (4-5 overall) and set a tournament single-game record with 15 putouts.

The graduate of Mountain View High School in Meridian also went 6-for-16 at the plate with two home runs and three RBIs in the tournament. The week prior she led the softball team with four home runs and earned the Red Lion Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week award.

Kinghorn is the daughter of Leanne DeHaas (Grangeville High School graduate) and Bryan Kinghorn of the Boise area and the granddaughter of Don and Myrna DeHaas of Grangeville. She is a nursing major.
