Wrestling: Five Rams bound for Nampa

With last week’s district tournament in the rear view mirror, 16 wrestlers representing Grangeville, Prairie, Clearwater Valley and Kamiah high schools have been seeded for the upcoming all-classifications state tournament to be held Feb. 28-March 1 in Nampa at the Idaho Center.

Clearwater Valley holds the area’s greatest number, five, on the 2-1A bracket, with Prairie and Kamiah each sending four.

In senior Phillip Walters, who has gone 21-3 at 195 pounds this season, Grangeville has a top-four seed and may have the area’s best hope for a medal.

Also competing for GHS will be Frankie Zumwalt (14-19 at 132 pounds) and John Asker (0-11 at 220).

These Pirates will make the trip: Kellie Heitman (2-2 at 113), Nathan Gimmeson (2-11 at 120), Dally Ratcliff (16-10 at 126), and Hunter McWilliams (7-3 at 152).

So will these Kubs: Zach Wilkins (17-8 at 145), Ian Anderson (16-16 at 160), Ryker Grimm (7-19 at 160) and Dillon Wilcox (9-12 at 170).

The CV contingent includes: Caleb Schlieper (10-19 at 138), Tyler Morrow (11-10 at 170), Trae Dominguez (6-16 at 170) and Garrett Fell (10-23 at 220).
