Grant funds new collections bin at Cottonwood site for recycling

COTTONWOOD — Recent addition of a new collections bin will improve operations for Idaho County Recycling (ICR).

In 2013, ICR received a $3,000 Frank and Dorothy Peavey Memorial Fund grant, issued through the Idaho Community Foundation. The grant was used to purchase a 43-cubic-foot shipping container that was retrofitted with mechanisms for hauling, and a solar-powered hydraulic lift for its double-lid access opening.

The new bin is designated for the Cottonwood collection facility, and it will also benefit the Grangeville and Kooskia sites as an extra trade-out bin when needed.

“Adding this commodious bin to our fleet gives us more flexibility and capability for collecting and hauling recyclables generated in Idaho County, said ICR Chairwoman Janie Fluharty, “and we are extremely grateful for this grant to get the Cottonwood site fully operational.”

ICR started in 2009 and has collected nearly three million pounds of recyclables, which include plastics, assorted paper, cans and cardboard. For information: 983-2843.
