Big Cedar Homemakers

On June 11, nine members of the Big Cedar Homemakers club met at the Big Cedar Schoolhouse with three guests, Laureen Raff, Marjorie Raff and Caroline Bailey.

The meeting was called to order at 10:17 a.m. by President Madelon Gribble.

The group discussed getting together sometime and making barn quilts on plywood for the schoolhouse and individual’s barns. Contact Irene Finehout at 926-4783.

The group discussed making audio tapes of people who attended school at the Big Cedar Schoolhouse. We may make a book with pictures and text incorporating these stories. If you or someone you know has attended the Big Cedar Schoolhouse, contact Madelon Gribble (926-4709) to arrange an interview.

Work on the Big Cedar Schoolhouse should commence the last week in July/first week of August. Work will include: pouring a concrete slab for a food prep area for the taco feed, painting the pavilion and green shed; touching up the paint on the exterior of the schoolhouse and window repair.

The following events were announced:

July 18 - Bingo sponsored by Tahoe QRU from 6:30-9 p.m. at the QRU building on Leitch Creek.

July 26 - Tahoe QRU community garage sale at Tahoe QRU on Leitch Creek, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Sara Schroeder shared about the piano recital at the LDS church; and the group discussed Dana Keyser playing at our August meeting.

Kris Perry demonstrated how to make tote bags and aprons from recycled feed bags. The group had a fun time sewing and Marjorie Raff was happy to show off her new “feed apron.”

Big Cedar Homemakers is open to any ladies in the area. We meet the second Wednesday of each month. For information contact Irene Finehout at 926-4783.
