RIGGINS – Investigators positively identified the body found in the Salmon River last month as that of a Caldwell man reported missing following a May vehicle accident in Valley County.
According to the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office, the body of Marlin Riggs, 51, was recovered from the bank of the Salmon River, approximately 17 miles upriver from Riggins, on June 21. Riggs had been missing since he was involved in a vehicle accident near Yellow Pine on May 17.
Kayakers discovered Riggs’ body and reported to the ICSO Dispatch Center; however, ICSO Corporal Justin Scuka responded to the approximate location and was unable to locate the victim due to light conditions.
The following day, June 22, ICSO Sheriff Doug Giddings responded and confirmed the victim’s location. With the assistance of Fish and Game Conservation Officer Roy Kinner and his agency’s boat, ICSO Detective Corporal Brian Hewson and Idaho County Coroner Steve Frei responded to investigate.
The body was taken to Blackmer Funeral Home in Grangeville and subsequently transported to the Ada County Coroner’s Office for autopsy. With information provided by the Valley County Sheriff’s Office, the autopsy confirmed the victim was Riggs.
The Valley County Sheriff’s Office has made family notification.
