LOWELL (2:35 p.m. UPDATE) - Two people died in a Wednesday morning, July 2, crash on U.S. Highway 12 at Lowell. Names are unavailable at this point, and Idaho State Police is investigating the incident.
The crash was reported at 2:54 a.m. Boone Hallmark, 29, of Boise, was driving a 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser eastbound when he fell asleep, and the vehicle went off the south edge of the highway. The PT Cruiser became submerged in the river.
According to information from the Idaho County Sheriff's Office, Hallmark came to a guest's door at the Wilderness Hotel, advising he had been in a crash in the river, and that his wife and child were still in the vehicle and it was submerged.
Hallmark was transported to Syringa Hospital in Grangeville. He was wearing a seat belt.
Two passengers were in the vehicle, but due to river conditions the recovery of the vehicle has been delayed.
Assisting ISP on the crash were the Idaho County Sheriff's Office and Idaho Department of Transportation.
