Anniversaty: Finney — 70 years

Nadine and Charles Finney.

Nadine and Charles Finney.

On July 27, Charles and Nadine Finney of Woodland will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary.

Charles Finney is the son of Frank Finney and Mabel George and the grandson of Austin Sherman and Sarah Jeanette (Haskins) George, all early Woodland pioneers.

Shortly after their marriage in 1944, Charles began his service aboard the USS Seacat in the Pacific Theater during World War II. His submarine was part of the Naval presence in Tokyo Bay on Sept. 2, 1945, when Japan formally surrendered to Allied forces aboard the battleship USS Missouri.

Following the war, the couple came home to Idaho where they eventually took residence on the old Wilson George place at Woodland. There they raised four children, farmed for a time, raised cattle and huge gardens. They retired in the mid-1990s but still reside on the home place.

No reception is planned.
