RIGGINS — The 16th annual Big Water Blowout River Festival is this Saturday, June 7, right here in Riggins! Celebrate summer and experience Idaho’s biggest water! The festival will feature discount rafting on the famous Salmon River of No Return from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. followed by the famous Dutch Oven Cook-off with a $5 entry fee beginning at 5 p.m.; judging at 7 p.m., then dinner with good food, cold beverages, and live music by “Old Death Whisper” from 7-10 p.m. all in the Riggins City Park.

“Wine and Beer Tasting Extravaganza” will be held this Friday, June 6, from 6-8 p.m. at the Idaho Banana Company right on South Main Street in Riggins with its first summer tastings under the new gazebo in the orchard. Everyone is invited to join in on the fun.

A coffee tasting event will be held at Two Rivers Coffee this Saturday, June 7, at 10 a.m. (MDT). Plan to join in on the fun, and find your favorite coffee as you visit with friends and neighbors.

The last day of school is tomorrow, Thursday, June 5. Kids and teachers will be cheering and rejoicing as they begin their summer vacations!

Dena Holland Duran accompanied by Tyler Vance will be performing this Sunday, June 8, at 6 p.m. at the Congregational Church in McCall at a free concert sponsored by McCall Music Society. Dena is a 1994 Salmon River High School graduate and is the daughter of Jerry and Vanna Holland of Riggins. “Sunday Sounds” has free performances the second Sunday of each month…. the public is always welcome to attend.

Sandy Denley died May 29 in Grandview with her husband and her family her side. She just retired from Grandview School District after spending 23 years as cook/baker. Sandy loved people and was loved by many. She especially liked traveling to her second home in Riggins where she instantly made friends with many people who live here. Sandy’s funeral service will be held in Riggins, Thursday, June 5, at 11 a.m. at the Salmon River Community Church. A reception will follow. Inurnment will be held at Riggins Cemetery. Services were held for her in Grandview Tuesday, June 3. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to the Mountain Home Humane Society, P.O. Box 10, Mountain Home, ID 83647.

Volleyball Camp sponsored by ASK, Inc. and coached by Paula Tucker will be held June 9-11 for boys and girls, first-fourth graders from 9-10 a.m., fifth-sixth graders from 9 a.m.-noon, and high school students from 5-7:30 p.m. at Salmon River High School. Each participant receives free tickets to Silverwood. Register with Paula at ptucker@hotmail.com or call her at 630-4997.

Basketball Camp sponsored by ASK, Inc. and coached by Coach Paula Tucker will be held June 16-19 for boys and girls, kindergarten-second graders, 9-10 a.m.; third-eighth graders, 9 a.m.-noon; and high school students, 5-7:30 p.m., at Salmon River High School. Outdoor Camp sponsored by ASK, Inc. will be held Tuesday-Friday, June 24-27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. Students pre-kindergarten-12th grade are welcome to attend. There will be lots of fun activities, and registration forms are available at ASK.

Free Fishing Day is Saturday, June 14, all across the state of Idaho! This is the one day each year that you can fish without a fishing license or tags. All other rules such as limits or tackle restrictions remain in effect. At several locations around the state which will be listed soon, fishing equipment will be available and experts will be on hand to teach.

Salmon River Senior Citizens are sponsoring an all you can eat “Taco Nite” with dessert and beverage on Friday, June 20, from 5:30-8 p.m. at the Riggins Community Center located behind Crump’s Chevron. Donations will support senior programs. For information call 628-2394.
