Cottonwood man in fair condition after wreck

ELK CITY — A Cottonwood man is listed in fair condition following a Sunday evening runaway vehicle accident west of Elk City.

As of press time Tuesday, Elvin J. Swisher was admitted to care at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston.

The incident was reported at 5:21 p.m., milepost five on FS Road 492, according to an Idaho County Sheriff’s Office (ICSO) report. A witness, USFS Law Enforcement Officer Brooks Beegle, reported a disabled trailer full of firewood had been disconnected from Swisher’s 1991 Ford F250 pickup. The emergency brake was on but it did not hold, and the pickup began to roll down the outside edge of the roadway. Swisher attempted to get into the vehicle to stop it, but he was unable before it went off the roadway and it rolled over him. During the incident, Beegle said he had also attempted to hold back the truck but was unsuccessful.

Swisher was transported by the Elk City Ambulance to State Highway 14 where he was taken by LifeFlight to Lewiston. ICSO Deputy Stan Denham investigated the accident. Dale’s Rescue Towing provided wrecker services.
