Shocked county vote turnout down

Letter: Cherylyn Kerley Grangeville

I was shocked and disappointed when I read in the Idaho County Free Press that voter turnout was down 12 percent from 2012. There are 9,464 registered voters in Idaho County and only a little more than a third bothered to vote. I fear that too many take our freedoms for granted. A few days ago we remembered the anniversary of D-Day where the price for freedom was paid in the blood of thousands of brave and honorable patriots who gave their all for our freedom, yet so many of us cannot be bothered to get informed and vote. Those who don’t care enough to invest the time and effort to be informed and vote are disrespecting the sacrifice of those who died that we could be free.

“Liberty cannot be preserved without general knowledge among the people.” John Adams

“Educate and inform the whole mass of the people…They are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty.” Thomas Jefferson

“The only sure bulwark of continuing liberty is a government strong enough to protect the interests of the people, and a people strong enough and well enough informed to maintain its sovereign control over the government.” Franklin D. Roosevelt

Thank you to those who care and took the time to be informed and vote.

Cherylyn Kerley
