Idaho voters are presented with a clear choice in November: Idaho Democratic candidates who are committed to honest, open and well-managed government or the old regime of Republican politicians whose 20 years of power have devastated our economy and our education system.
When it comes to competence, integrity and commitment to Idaho citizens, our candidates stand head and shoulders above the wounded victors of the GOP primary.
Indeed, Republican politicians can only claim two advantages: First, they have a lot of experience as politicians — 40 years in some cases. Second, they have support from wealthy special interests and lobbyists who want to keep the playing field sloped in their favor.
As to the Republican politicians’ experience, they can keep it. Their poor management and decision-making has led Idaho to last in family wages, near-last in education investment, and second in percentage of minimum wage jobs — not to mention their reckless effort to destroy our legacy of access to public lands.
What will be our greatest challenge is cutting through the distortion that their lobbyists and wealthy partners can create with high-dollar contributions.
Our candidates are committed to focusing on solutions to issues that affect Idaho families, businesses and cities. We will not waste time and money mismanaging our state agencies and awarding contracts based on who gives campaign contributions. We will make sure our elected leaders work for everybody, not just for the politically connected. We will reverse the damage dealt to our education system by Republican politicians. We will make sure that our elected leaders don’t pass laws that stand in the way of a citizen’s opportunity to succeed.
We will have to work hard to compete. That is not a problem. We are hard workers. As the Republican politicians battle each other for the chance to install their cronies and contributors into positions of power, we will be letting families and businesses know that Idaho Democrats are on their side. We are strong and growing stronger.
I like our chances.
