Update: Drowning victim, Gray, found south of Lewiston

LEWISTON – The body of Joseph ‘A.J.” Gray, who drowned in a June 8 rafting accident, was found south of Lewiston last week.

Last Tuesday, June 17, according to the Nez Perce Sheriff’s Office, an employee of River Quest Excursions reported finding a deceased person in the Snake River near Cache Creek. NPSO deputies and Nez Perce County Coroner Gary Gilliam responded by boat to the area, located more than 35 miles south of Lewiston, and recovered the victim.

Gray, 35, of Coeur d’Alene was reported missing after the raft he was in overturned in the Salmon River near Lucile. He was not wearing a life vest.

The river carried Gray’s body an estimated 80 miles from the accident scene in nine days. Gray’s family has been notified.
