Filings close Friday

GRANGEVILLE — With just a few days left before the filing deadline, Idaho County races are starting to see interest from both incumbents and newcomers.

Filings as of press time Tuesday: Skip Brandt (R) has filed for re-election to Commission District 1; Mark Frei (R) of Grangeville has filed for Commission District 2; Kathy Ackerman of Grangeville, re-election for county clerk; James Zehner of Grangeville, re-election for county assessor; incumbent Deanna Hall and newcomer Abbie Hudson, both of Grangeville, for county treasurer; Cody Funke of Cottonwood for county coroner.

Prospective candidates have until this Friday, March 14, to file petitions of candidacy for elected official positions up this year.

March 14 is also the deadline for voters to not only be registered but also have stated a political affiliation with one of Idaho’s four recognized political parties – Constitution, Democrat, Libertarian, Republican – or have themselves designated as “unaffiliated” or no party preference.

Registered electors who are currently affiliated with a recognized political party and wish to change affiliation may complete a party affiliation form prior to March 14; after this date voters may not change affiliation until after the May 20 primary election.
