Cottonwood controlled burn escapes, destroys shed

COTTONWOOD — A controlled burn got out of control Sunday afternoon, March 23, and destroyed a shed at Cottonwood.

The fire was reported at 1:02 p.m. by Connie Uhlenkott, 976 East Road, and on arrival by Cottonwood firefighters and law enforcement, the shed was reported fully engulfed. As the structure was too far involved, “Firefighters kept it contained to that spot,” said Fire Chief Greg Sonnen, working to control the blaze from spreading farther.

Three Cottonwood Volunteer Fire Department trucks and eight firemen responded, along with Cottonwood Police Chief Terry Cochran. No injuries were reported. Details were not available on the type of shed or items possibly destroyed in the blaze.
