The 2014 Prairie High School baseball team marked its renaissance with a run to the 1A state championship last Friday and Saturday, May 16-17, at Lewiston’s Church Field. After defeating Horseshoe Bend during the tournament opener, the Pirates were aced out by Genesee 9-8 Friday. But on the brink of elimination, the Pirates surged past Council 16-5 to set up a rematch with the Bulldogs on Saturday. Needing to beat Genesee twice, the PHS hitters put up 10 runs in support of Devin Bruegeman to force an “if necessary” seventh game, during which Prairie overcame an 8-0 deficit to win by a football score: 24-14.
