Memorial Day yard sale set

RIGGINS — The Salmon River Community Church will hold its annual Memorial Day weekend yard sale in the church parking lot. They need items to sell. If you or your neighbor or friends have things to donate, take them by the church Monday or Tuesday… there is usually someone there… if not, put your donations at the back door under the roof. Call Pastor Jim at 628-4043 if you need items to be picked up. Thank you in advance. Part of the money raised will help their senior citizens be able to attend the senior retreat in June.

SRHS awards banquet and potluck sponsored by the PTO will be held Thursday, May 22, with the dinner beginning at 6 p.m.; awards beginning at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend. Ham, rolls, beans, beverages and tableware will be provided. Community members are invited to bring a salad or a dessert.

Riggins pre-school and kindergarten screening and registration will be held next Tuesday, May 27, and Wednesday, May 28, from 1-4 p.m. at the Riggins Elementary kindergarten room. Call 628-3361 to make an appointment.

Our local fund-raiser event, “Jump in for Justin,” is going strong. In October 2013 Riggins local Justin Mann was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. To help relieve the burden of mounting expenses we are jumping in to donate a few bucks while having some fun! Here’s how it works! If you have been “called out” you have 48 hours to donate $5 and show your support by jumping in some kind of cold water! If you don’t jump, pay $20 and call out four others for taking the easy way out! You can drop off all payments at Main Street Hair Co. or The Tourist Trap Consignment & Gift Shop in Riggins or you can donate to the Justin Mann family by making checks payable to Lynda Mann and mail to P.O. Box 1272, Riggins, ID 83549. Now let’s jump in, get wet and have some fun! See Free Press feature article for information about this crazy, wonderful event.

Celebration of Life set May 23 for Wilma Hall

RIGGINS — A celebration of life for Wilma Hall, mother of Phyllis Seiber, will be held at the Assembly of God Church in Riggins this Friday, May 23, at 11 a.m. with a lunch immediately following the service, provided by Phyllis and Dave Sieber. Everyone is invited, especially Wilma’s friends from church, pinochle, seniors, knit club, quilt club, Red Hat Society, American Legion Auxiliary and the Rebekahs as well as her friends at the stores, restaurants, bank and clinic.

Wilma passed away on Feb. 25 in California at age 95. If you have a few flowers in your yard, bring them with you to honor Wilma…. she loved flowers and gave lots away when she lived here. We hope you can join us.

The Riggins Community Center open house of the newly remodeled building held Sunday gave us a great vision of events that can be held there… the most unique feature is an elevator which allows our handicapped friends to attend events in the upstairs area. If you would like to use the Community Center call Riggins City Hall to schedule your event, from weddings to reunions, showers, parties, meetings, plays, etc. City Hall also has information on using the Salmon River Heritage Center, the Riggins City Park and the City Council Chambers.

“Wine and Beer Tasting Extravaganza” will begin Friday, June 6, from 6-8 p.m. at the Idaho Banana Company right on South Main Street in Riggins! Save the date for the first of their summer tastings. Did you notice there will be not just wine tasting, but beer, too! And, guess where? Under the new gazebo in the orchard, of course! See you there.

Big Water Blowout River Festival is almost here! Just two-and-one-half weeks away! Riggins is a small town with a big backyard! Saturday, June 7.

American Legion Post No. 130 in Riggins will hold its annual picnic in the Riggins City Park Sunday, June 29, at 2 p.m.

Salmon River Community Church Vacation Bible School, VBS, will be held July 7-11 with the great Texas team leading the way.
