RIGGINS — Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! May your day and weekend with family and friends be filled with joy, laughter, thankfulness and lots of good food!
And with Thanksgiving just finishing up, Christmas season is here! There are several programs, bazaars, and activities going on in Riggins the next few weeks.
The Secret Santa “Giving Tree” is set up at the Riggins Umpqua Bank and is trimmed with “boy/girl and ages” decorations to help make Christmas bright for families here in the Salmon River Canyon. Community members can choose a tag, purchase gifts, and take them unwrapped to Riggins City Hall by Dec. 16… Santa’s helpers will wrap and deliver gifts.
Riggins Christmas Bazaar is this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 28 and 29, from 10 a.m. 4 p.m. at Riggins Community Center located behind Crump’s Chevron. Proceeds from booth rental will go to the 2014 Riggins’ Secret Santa program.
There are still some available openings for the Toys for Tots Program and the Riggins Secret Santa Program that help make Christmas happy for our local kids and their families. Applications can be picked up at Riggins City Hall or Riggins Elementary School.
Food baskets are located at Riggins’ grocery stores and Riggins City Hall for anyone to donate food for the Christmas baskets... all food needs to be donated by Dec. 16.
The Two Ladies Antiques and Vintage Collectibles invite you for a glass of Christmas wine, finger foods, and a carnation as their gift to you from them this Saturday, Nov. 29, from 6-8 p.m. They are located at 1120 South Main Street, adjacent to Idaho Banana Co. in Riggins.
The Pinehurst Quilters have made a beautiful quilt that they will raffle off to help Charity Eckwortzel with medical expenses. The quilt is on display at Pine Tree Community Credit Union in Riggins. Tickets, one ticket/$1 or six tickets/$5, can be purchased from Kathie Wright, Nightfeather Boggan or Linda Ryska or at Pine Tree.
Riggins Assembly of God Christmas Bazaar is next Friday, Dec. 5, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 6, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Call Kathy Scheline at 630-4160 to reserve tables at $10 a table.
Unique Antlers will have its annual Christmas open house next Saturday, Dec. 6, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Refreshments will be served all day. Guests are invited to browse through the store filled with wonderful creations handmade from antlers and soapstone by Shari and Wendy.
Saturday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m. the first annual Community Tree Lighting ceremony sponsored by the Salmon River Chamber of Commerce will be held at Two Rivers Coffee on Main Street, 616 South Main, across the street from Riggins Motel. There will be free cookies and hot drinks, caroling and Santa himself.
Sunday, Dec. 14, at 6 p.m. Riggins Assembly of God Church will present its Christmas program, “The Christmas Cross.” Twenty-two children will have warming messages for Christmas!
Monday afternoon, Dec. 15, Mrs. Fitch will be reading Christmas stories to Riggins Elementary students while they munch cookies and sip hot chocolate.
Riggins Elementary School will present its annual Christmas program Wednesday, Dec. 17, at 7 p.m. at SRHS multipurpose room.
Riggins Elementary kids will be caroling on Riggins Main Street Thursday, Dec. 18. Be out and about to hear them singing and wishing you a Merry Christmas.
“Gifts of Music” annual Christmas event hosted by Salmon Rapids Lodge will be held Saturday, Dec. 20, at 6 p.m. featuring HotWire Band. This free event is a gift to the public. Cookies, punch and hot cider will be served by the fireplace. The lodge is also offering a discount on this weekend. Mention the “Gifts of Music” event and receive 15 percent off any room type when making an advance reservation. Christmas Eve service is Wednesday, Dec. 24, at 6 p.m. Contact Pastor Scheline at 630-4444 if you wish to participate in the program.
