Proposed ordinance needs your input

Grangeville City Council is currently proposing to rescind the cat ordinance. Cats will no longer require licensing, much to the relief of many owners. However, the intent of the ordinance relating to impounding of cats is unclear. Over 95 percent of cats impounded are abandoned and released to Animal Ark for spay, neuter and placement. Animal Ark does not have foster homes or holding facilities for cats. We need the impoundment period to set up veterinary appointments and find a home for these cats. Without a cat impound ordinance, stray and abandoned cats will be left to potentially endure disease, starvation, predators, abuse and will continue breeding. Please attend the Monday, Oct. 20, 7:30 p.m. city council meeting. Your support is necessary and appreciated.
