TROY Grangeville's offense put Madison Brown (42 kills, 4.2 per game) in position to take point after point during the first day of 2A District I-II volleyball tournament day -- which GHS survived with wins over Orofino and St. Maries.
Defeating Orofino (26-24, 24-26, 28-26, 21-25, 15-9) last Saturday morning, Oct. 18, set up an showdown with regular season top seed St. Maries. With a win (25-21, 16-25, 16-25, 25-22, 16-14) over the Lumberjacks, Grangeville will advance to either directly to the state tournament or to a play-in game, depending on Monday night's results.
Orofino will square off against St. Maries at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at Troy High School. Grangeville will play the winner at 6:30.
1A District II tournaments
In the upper division, Clearwater Valley beat Lapwai (25-22, 28-26, 25-18) and will play Prairie at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, at LCSC. Troy advanced and second-seeded Genesee beat Kamiah (25-10, 25-5, 25-8) so the Kubs will play Potlatch at 5:30 p.m. Monday at LCSC.
In the lower division, Summit beat Nezperce in four games but fell to Logos (25-14, 25-21, 25-18) in the second round. Summit will play Highland at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, at LCSC.
