BUHL — Grangeville’s state tournament will open at 8 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31, against a Nampa Christian team that boasts one of the 2A classifications best overall records.
Per idahosports.com, which will broadcast all the state volleyball tournaments starting at 9 a.m. Nov. 1, Nampa Christian (15-1) was unbeaten in Idaho this year. Against a slate that included one other state qualifier — New Plymouth — the Trojans only reported loss was at Vale, Ore., in September.
Other 2A title contenders include Declo, West Side, Firth, Malad and the Central Idaho League’s Orofino.
With a first-round win, Grangeville’s Friday schedule would include a match at 3 p.m. against the Declo-West Side winner.
All of the 2A tournament matches will be played at Buhl High School.
PHS draws Oakley in first round
WENDELL — Prairie, which ran the table during the District II volleyball tournament last week and posted a 20-5 overall regular season record, will face an Oakley team that mustered just six wins (per idahosports.com) prior to running off three in a row in its district tournament.
Should the Pirates advance out of that match, which will begin at 8 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31 at 1AD1 tournament host Wendell High School, PHS may have to face a familiar foe: Genesee, which drew a first round matchup against Horseshoe Bend.
Other teams in the tournament include Challis, Notus, Valley and Whitepine League powerhouse Troy. The WPL teams in the state tournament lost only to each other in league play this season.
