LAPWAI – A Lapwai woman faces multiple felony charges stemming from Sunday evening’s two-vehicle crash south of Lewiston that resulted in the death of a Cottonwood man.
Joseph G. Seubert, 55, died at the scene four miles north of Lapwai on the Spalding Bridge. U.S. Highway 95 was blocked for approximately three hours as a result of the crash.
A preliminary hearing is set next Wednesday, April 29, for Dorika D. L. Powaukee, 35, who is charged with vehicular manslaughter, transporting a minor in a vehicle while under the influence, and aggravated DUI.
According to an Idaho State Police report, alcohol is a suspected factor in the two-vehicle crash reported April 19 at 5:47 p.m. on U.S. 95, milepost 304. Powaukee was driving a 2000 Ford Ranger southbound on the bridge when she crossed the centerline and collided with Seubert’s 2009 Chevrolet Aveo.
Seubert’s passenger, Angela K. Seubert, 55, of Cottonwood, was injured and taken to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, as were Powaukee and her passenger, an unidentified child. All were wearing seat belts; restraint use for the child was unknown. Powaukee and Angela were treated and released.
