Elk City Days set for Friday, Saturday, Aug. 7, 8

— Area patrons will pay homage to the Elk City Volunteer Fire Department during Elk City Days Aug. 7 and 8. The members of the fire department will serve as grand marshals for the weekend’s events.

Friday, Aug, 7, will begin with Alliance taco and fire department concession on Main Street from 4-7 p.m. Kiddie’s parade participants will meet at 4:30 p.m. at the post office and the parade will begin at 5 p.m.

Sluicing for Treasures will be sponsored by the VFW Auxiliary and begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by a baseball game at 6 p.m. at the Elk City School – Forest Service versus Town Folks. A live band will play at the VFW Hall starting at 9 p.m.

The VFW breakfast will start the day Saturday, Aug. 8, 7 to 10:30 a.m. The ping pong ball drop is at the airport at 9 a.m. From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., concession continue. The grand parade signup is at 10 a.m. at the post office with the parade starting at 11 a.m.

Sluicing for Treasures will run again for the kids at noon, with the sawdust dig at the VFW parking lot starting at noon and running until 6 p.m. The VFW will also open a hamburger stand during that time.

The logging show, sponsored by the American Legion, will begin at 1 p.m. at the EMY garage parking lot with entries costing $5 each. The VFW auction is set for 3 p.m. The fire department drawing will take place at 4 p.m. and the Chicken Walk winner will be chosen at 4:15 p.m. The day will wind down with a live band at the VFW Hall starting at 9 p.m.
