Canceled due to fires: Aug. 27 Kamiah hearing on proposed truck routes on US 12, state highways 13, 162

UPDATE, Aug 26 - An Idaho Transportation Department public hearing planned in Kamiah tomorrow (Thursday, Aug. 27) to gather comments on applications allowing trucks weighing up to 129,000 pounds on sections of U.S. 12, Idaho 13 and Idaho 162 has been canceled because of fires in the area.

An opportunity for public comment on the applications will be rescheduled when wildfire conditions improve.

Public comment will be taken in Kamiah next Thursday, Aug. 27, on applications allowing trucks weighing up to 129,000 pounds on highway sections of U.S. 12, Idaho 13 and Idaho 162.

The hearing will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the Kamiah Elementary School multi-purpose room, 711 9th Street. Idaho Transportation Department staff will answer questions, and displays will illustrate truck and route information. There will be an opportunity to give verbal or written comments.

Proposals are to allow trucks on U.S. 12 from mileposts 66.22 to 73.85 (Kamiah to Kooskia), on Idaho 13 from mileposts 0 to 26.39 (Kooskia to Grangeville), and on Idaho 162 from mileposts 31.07 to 8 (Kamiah to 4 Corners).

These shipments are reducible, meaning cargo or goods can be removed to make a shipment lighter.

Applications may be reviewed prior to the hearing online at, and click on the individual route applications that are listed under the Submitted Requests headline. Comments may be submitted online. Comments on the route will be received through Thursday, Sept. 10.
