Christmas events set throughout county

A variety of Christmas events are set throughout Idaho County including the following:

Center for Discovery Open ‘til Midnight Dec. 11

COTTONWOOD — The Center For Discovery will be hosting its “Open ‘til Midnight” where parents can leave their kids at the center from after school until midnight, Friday, Dec. 11, for $2 an hour. The kids can also shop for their family members at our Kids Shopping Day on this night. Dinner will be provided as well as movies and crafts. Then the community is invited to shop Saturday, Dec. 12, 8 a.m. to noon. Park in the back of the school and come in through the cafeteria door. Gifts are bought on a donation basis and wrapping will be available.

Cottonwood Christmas parade is Dec. 13

COTTONWOOD — The Lighted Christmas Parade will be held Sunday, Dec. 13, 5 p.m.

Craft fairs set in Grangeville

GRANGEVILLE – A variety of craft and food fairs and bazaars are set for this weekend in Grangeville.

•The annual craft fair is set for Grangeville Elementary Middle School Saturday, Dec. 5, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with more than 70 local vendors. Lunch and baked goods will be available for purchase as well.

•United Methodist Church will host its UMW bazaar and pie fellowship Saturday, Dec. 5, 9 a.m., at the church on Main Street. The popular mincemeat and many other items and pies will be available.

•The Women of Sts. Peter and Paul Parish will host their annual Christmas Luncheon and Bazaar Saturday, Dec. 5, 11 a.m. -1 p.m. The bazaar will be held from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., in the new parish center.

American Legion Christmas party on tap for Dec. 5

GRANGEVILLE — American Legion Post 37 and Auxiliary will sponsor a Christmas Party for all community veterans and their families Saturday, Dec. 5. Children are welcome. A complete holiday dinner is provided. Members are asked to bring a salad or dessert to share and unwrapped gifts for the Mountain States Cancer Institute Toy Barn. Gifts for children from infants and older are appreciated. There will be door prizes and gifts for the children attending. The party will be from 6-8 p.m., at the Eagles Hall. Area families can give, receive for Christmas

GRANGEVILLE – Several giving and donation opportunities are available for the Grangeville area including the following:

•Families in Grangeville, Harpster, Clearwater, Fenn or White Bird, are welcome to sign up for the Grangeville Tree of Sharing. To have your child’s wishes placed on the tree, you will need to sign up at Health and Welfare no later than Dec. 4. For questions call Linda at 983-2300. Those from other communities will need to sign up for the tree in their area.

•Umpqua Bank on Main Street is collecting hats, gloves and coats for those in need. A special emphasis is on the hats and gloves this year. Drop items off in the bank’s collection box. 983-0600.

•Toys for Tots donation boxes will be at Umpqua Bank and Camas Lanes in Grangeville, as well as at The Hangout in Cottonwood. Names of families in need will be taken after Nov. 15. Distribution of toys will be Dec. 19. “I would like to thank the community and several individuals for always stepping forward and helping me in this great project,” said organizer Julie Bentley. Harpster community program is set for Dec. 13

HARPSTER — The Harpster Community Christmas program is set for Sunday, Dec. 13, 3 p.m., at the Harpster Community Building. Everyone is invited. Santa will visit and treats will be available.

Grangeville Christmas concerts set for Dec. 7, 14, 17

GRANGEVILLE — Students at Grangeville Elementary Middle School will be involved in various Christmas concerts during December. Kindergarten/first grade concert is set for Monday, Dec. 7, 6:30 p.m., in the GEMS multipurpose room. The title of their concert is “December is the Time.” The second through fifth grade concert will be Monday, Dec. 14, 6:30 p.m., in the GEMs multipurpose room. The title of their concert is “The Holidays in Grangeville.” The middle school choir and band will perform with the Grangeville High School choirs and band Thursday, Dec. 17, 7 p.m., at Grangeville High School.

Riggins tree lighting scheduled for Saturday

RIGGINS — Christmas Tree Lighting on Riggins Main Street at Two Rivers Coffee with hot coffee and hot chocolate will be Saturday, Dec. 5.

Opera House Christmas shows set for Dec. 18, 19

KOOSKIA — The Old Opera House Old-Fashioned Christmas and Variety Show is set for Friday, Dec. 18, and Saturday, Dec. 19, 7:30 p.m. each evening. Tickets, at $12 per person, can be reserved by calling Graves GreenThumb Nursery at 926-0094.

Kids’ Christmas sale set for Dec. 12 at Eagles Hall

GRANGEVILLE — The annual Kids Christmas Sale will be held Saturday, Dec. 12, at the Eagles Hall on C Street, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., for children 4-12. Coffee and cookies will be available to parents while their kids shop and have their items wrapped.

Kamiah tree lighting to take place Saturday

KAMIAH — Kamiah’s Community Tree Lighting will take place Friday, Dec. 4.

Umpqua has Tree of Sharing, taking food bank donations

KOOSKIA — Umpqua Bank in Kooskia is now accepting applications for the Tree of Sharing. All applicants must live in the Kooskia, Stites and Clearwater areas and be younger than the age of 18. All applications for the sharing tree must be turned in no later than Dec. 11. All gifts for the sharing tree must be turned in to the bank no later than Dec. 16. All gifts must be picked up no later than Dec. 22.

Umpqua Bank will also be accepting food and cash/check donations for its local food bank. Nonperishable items and cash or checks will be accepted through Dec. 18.

Lowell QRU party set

for Dec. 5

LOWELL — The Lowell QRU Christmas party and auction is set for Saturday, Dec. 5, at Wilderness Inn, starting at 4:30 p.m. A raffle and potluck will also be held. Orofino bazaar is this Saturday at high school

OROFINO — The Patchwork Bazaar, the annual arts and crafts show, will be held at Orofino High School Saturday, Dec. 5, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Clearwater Memorial Public Library will be having a used book sale in conjunction with the bazaar. The American Association of University Women is sponsoring the event.

Jingle parade in Kooskia is Saturday, Dec. 5

KOOSKIA — Kooskia Chamber’s Kiddie Jingle Parade and Tree Lighting is set for Saturday, Dec. 5, downtown.

Assembly of God Girls bazaar on tap for Dec. 4, 5

CV holiday fair set for Dec. 12; vendors sought

KOOSKIA — The Fifth Annual Clearwater Valley High School 2016 Senior Parents Holiday Craft Fair is set for Saturday, Dec. 12, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the CVHS cafeteria.

Santa to be available to talk to kids via radio Dec. 12

The annual “Talk to Santa” will take place this year from 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 12. Arrangements have been made with Santa to be on his Ham Radio for those three hours. Members of 3 Rivers Amateur Radio Club will man the radios at Cloninger’s in Kamiah and Clearwater Valley Market Place in Kooskia.

Concert set for monastery

COTTONWOOD — The “True Gifts of Christmas” concert will be held at the Monastery of St. Gertrude Sunday, Dec. 6, a concert by Catholic recording artist Jaime Thietten, Monastery chapel, 2 p.m. (no cost, freewill offering will be taken).

Trinity Lutheran hosting Advent services

GRANGEVILLE — Trinity Lutheran Church will host midweek Advent services and soup suppers are set for Wednesdays, Dec. 2, 9 and 16, 7-7:30 p.m., Trinity Lutheran Church. Soup Suppers precede the Advent services from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Valley Singers to present programs this week

KAMIAH — Valley Singers and Bell Ringers will host concerts the following dates: Thursday, Dec. 3, 7 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 6, 3 p.m. These will be held at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church. A youth choir called COGS (Children of God Singers) made up of pre-school - 5th graders will also perform.

Tree of Giving set for Elk City; donations sought

ELK CITY – A Tree of Giving has been set up for the community kids of Elk City. Donations can be made at the school or by contacting Deb Rindleman at 842-2605, or Margaret Robinson at 842-2263 or at the school at 842-2218 ext. 1.
