Riggins News: ‘Light up Riggins’ during contest

— Congratulations to the “West All-Star Football Team” made up of five Salmon River football players: Alex Diaz, Devin Buys, Cody Day, Rylie Travis, and Beau’D Hopkins as well as five players from Council, Cambridge and Tri-Valley and coached by our own Charlie Shepherd and Dan Shumway from Council for winning the 2015 All Star Football Game last weekend. Many fans braved the cool temperatures to cheer on the All Stars. Congrats guys!

“Light up Riggins” Contest is about to begin! Lights must be up by Monday, Dec. 14 …sooner if you can. Winners of first-place business, $125; second-place business, $75; first-place residence, $125; and second-place residence, $75, will be announced Monday, Dec. 21. “Light up Riggins” contest is sponsored by Salmon River Chamber of Commerce.

Christmas Food Drive spearheaded by the Riggins Secret Santa Helpers and the Salmon River Community Food Pantry is ongoing. You may drop off food at Riggins City Hall, Riggins Whitewater Market or The Tourist Trap Consignment & Gift Shop by Monday, Dec. 14. This will help ensure no family goes without a Christmas meal. Suggested items are canned pumpkin, olives, cranberry sauce and stuffing.

Tree lighting is this Saturday

RIGGINS — Riggins second annual Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration will be held this Saturday, Dec. 5, on Riggins Main Street at Two Rivers Coffee with hay rides, hot coffee, hot chocolate and goodies to warm and refresh you. Everyone is invited and encouraged to join the celebration.

Christmas Bazaar with the Riggins Assembly of God Girls’ Ministry will be this weekend, Friday, Dec. 4, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 5, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. — more Christmas shopping for you here at home. All sorts of handmade treasures, gift baskets, gift sets, baked goods, wood crafts, signature signs, jewelry, knickknacks, Christmas decorations, cards, cosmetics, frozen cookie dough. All tables rented will benefit the Girls Ministry. For table rental, call Kathy Scheline at 630-4160.

Christmas season chili feed will be held this Sunday, Dec. 6, at 5 p.m. at the Riggins Community Center sponsored by the Salmon River Seniors. Suggested donation of $5 appreciated to help support.

Riggins Assembly of God children’s Christmas musical will be performed Sunday, Dec. 13, at 6 p.m. You won’t want to miss this special program.

The Riggins Secret Santas’ Giving Tree at Umpqua Bank has several names of children still on the tree. If you would like to help gift a child, go to the bank and make your selection. All donated gifts need to be returned, unwrapped to the Riggins City y Hall by next Friday, Dec. 11. If you would like to donate money to help with this program, make checks out to City of Riggins, with the notation, “Christmas Assistance Fund” and mail to P.O. Box 249, Riggins, ID 83549.

Riggins Elementary School Christmas play and After School Kids, Inc. Winter Musical Recital will be held in the SRHS multi-purpose room Wednesday, Dec. 16, at 7 p.m. Invite your friends and neighbors to come see our awesome students.

Riggins Elementary students will go Christmas caroling after lunch Thursday, Dec. 17, following their annual Christmas parties in the morning. The students will sing their way up Main Street and back to the school. Plan to be on Main Street to help celebrate Christmas with the kids.

Salmon River High School and Riggins Elementary School will have early release for Christmas vacation Thursday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. ASK, After School Kids, will have early release for Christmas vacation on Dec. 17. Bus and pickup will be at 3:45 p.m. School and ASK will resume Monday, Jan. 4, 2016!

Christmas Eve Service will be held Thursday, Dec. 24, at Riggins Assembly of God Church from 6-7 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend the hour service.
