Christmas Eve candlelight service set for The Life Center in Kamiah

KAMIAH —Christmas Eve with family and friends is a great tradition. Christian Reformed Church Christmas service is Dec. 20

GRANGEVILLE — The Grangeville Christian Reformed Church will host a Christmas service Sunday, Dec. 20. The community is invited to participate in the morning worship service which begins at 10 a.m. Following the service, the community is invited to a Christmas dinner at 11:30 a.m. At 1 p.m., they will have their Christmas program, followed by a dessert fellowship time.

Holiday chess tournament set for Cottonwood Jan. 16

COTTONWOOD – Whether to play or watch, the public is invited to the third annual Holiday Chess Tournament set for Saturday, Jan. 16, at Summit Academy in Cottonwood.

Player registration and instruction in tournament play is at 9 a.m., followed by start of tournaments at 10 a.m. that run to 3 p.m. Sets will be provided but players, if they have a Staunton-style chess set, can bring theirs in case extras are needed.

Tournaments will be four-round Swiss style, scholastically rated. This is open to ages 5 and up. Registration is $5, and scholarships are available. Prizes will be awarded in several categories.

Return of the Jedi to be shown Dec. 16

GRANGEVILLE — Following a farewell for Grangeville Centennial Librarian Becky Hosman, Wednesday Dec. 16, 5 p.m., the library will be showing Return of the Jedi. This was postponed from Family Read Week.

GRANGEVILLE — Grangeville schools Christmas concert for grades 6-12, will be Thursday, Dec. 17, 7 p.m., in the GHS gym.

Let’s Talk About it starts Jan. 19 at GCL

GRANGEVILLE —The Let’s Talk About It book club series will start Jan. 19 at Grangeville Centennial Library. Books are currently available for pickup.

KOOSKIA — Clearwater Valley Junior Senior High School concert is Wednesday, Dec. 16, 7 p.m., in the CVHS cafeteria. Clearwater Valley Elementary School will host its Christmas concert Dec. 17, 1:30 p.m.

Old Opera House shows are set for this week

KOOSKIA — The Old Opera House Old-Fashioned Christmas and Variety Show is set for Friday, Dec. 18, and Saturday, Dec. 19, 7:30 p.m. each evening. Tickets, at $12 per person, can be reserved by calling Graves GreenThumb Nursery at 926-0094.

RIGGINS — Riggins Elementary School Christmas Program will be held in the SRHS multipurpose room Wednesday, Dec. 16, 7 p.m.

Lighted Christmas parade set for Saturday in White Bird

WHITE BIRD — The Lighted Christmas Parade and Christmas Family Dance (fun for the entire family) will be held Saturday, Dec. 19. Parade lineup is at 6 p.m., on the U.S. Highway 95 pull-off into White Bird.

The parade will start down the hill and enter White Bird at 7 p.m., go up the street to the new White Bird Area Recreation District (former elementary school) and return down through town.

Chili, cornbread and hot cocoa will be served at the park and a bonfire will be held with Santa visiting. Contact Carrie Marek to join the parade, 507-2120.

After the parade (and new this year), a Christmas Family Dance will be held at the IOOF Hall. Music by Joaquin and Verna Lowe and Dave Dixon with Christmas skits and door prize drawings during band breaks will be offered. Contact Barbara Lowe, 839-2444, to perform a skit, song, etc.

Purchase door prize tickets at the door (bring a door prize if you would like to help). Donations will be accepted to offset the cost. The event is sponsored by the White Bird Chamber and Community Friends.

Encouragers will meet Dec. 17 at Oscar’s

GRANGEVILLE — Encouragers Christmas party is Thursday, Dec. l7, at 11:30 a.m. at Oscar’s Restaurant in Grangeville. A program of Christmas music will be provided by Grangeville High School groups under the direction of Kathy Stefani. Sue Johnson and Nancy Connolley will also sing or lead in carols. There will be a white elephant (garage sale item in good condition) gift exchange. Those who wish may bring items for the local food bank.

All are welcome to this no-host luncheon at 101 E. Main. The meeting is moving back to the first Thursday of each month beginning in January.

Advent service, soup supper is Wednesday; Christmas services next week

GRANGEVILLE — Celebrate the meaning of Christmas at Trinity Lutheran Church for an Advent service with music and prayer Wednesday, Dec. 16, 7 p.m. Come early for a free soup supper (with sides and desserts) and friendship from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The supper and service are casual.

The Christmas Eve Candlelight service will be at 7 p.m., Dec. 24, and Christmas Day service with communion on Friday, Dec. 25, at 9:30 a.m. All are welcome.

Breakfast with Santa to be held Saturday

GRANGEVILLE — The Grangeville Church of the Nazarene will be host to Breakfast with Santa, Saturday, Dec. 19, 10 a.m.- noon at the church, 515 W. N. 2nd Street. Parents are invited to attend with their children for breakfast, a story with Santa and photos.
